Ling Liong Sik - Resign!!! Never before in the history of Malaysia have we such a person like Ling Liong Sik who claimed to be leader of 90% of the Chinese people, that brought so much shame to them. Adding to the long list of shame - the Suqiu issue, lesen terbang, KLIA white elephant, Chang Ming Thien education fund, JE Humanitarian fund disbursement, etc, etc - Ling Liong Sik and MCA have brought to the people, I have this to add : MAS fare increase for local flights. Two months ago Ling Liong Sik had announced that there would be an increase. Then later retracted and said it would not be increased. Then Ling Liong Sik also said that Qantas intended to buy part of MAS. He later retracted what he said. On 1 Nov 00, after the cabinet meeting, Ling Liong Sik announced that a foreigner CEO would be appointed to head MAS. The following day his staffs said that he was misquoted. The British Airways has announced that with effect from 1 Apr 00 it will cease landing at KLIA, citing lost income on this route. And this is no April Fool joke. Checks on various ticketing agents showed that the bookings for British Airwys flights to and fro KLIA until mid November 2000 is still fully booked. Hence, the BA's excuse of lost income cannot be true. Many major airlines have already pulled out of this route. One 'clown' from the BN even attempted a face saving grace by saying that if these airlines do not come (to KLIA) other airlines like Virgin Airline would. I do not see how and why should Virgin Airline would want to come to KLIA when it is 45% owned by Singapore Airlines. It is rather disgusting to know that KLIA will now be no-hub, a very expensive spoke instead, built on a Treasury guaranteed loan, of RM 12 billion. Its the fault of the BN-led govt - bad planning, an airport for the next 200 years (my foot), bad foreign policies, bad diplomacies - alas! we the people and our children will suffer. Considering also what he said about Suqiu before and after the general election, I ask Ling Liong Sik to RESIGN!!! Wong Ang Peng |
Ding-A-Ling-Ling MCA President Ling Liong Sik, while offering no comments himself regarding Mahathir's National Day attack on Suiqiu -- in which the PM likened the innocuous organisation to communists and Al Ma'unah -- nevertheless offered the interesting observation that the PM "had been misquoted." Given the fact that Mahathir's speech had been nationally televised, this piece of horseshit is incredible even by the abysmally low standards of Ling Liong Sik himself. It is well known that this "ding-a-ling" will think nothing of spewing lies and misinformation to suit his purpose and that of the moribund organisation that he leads. But you would have thought that even he would have sufficient intelligence not to betray his propensity for lying and his toadying to Mahathir in so convincing and so concise a manner. It will be pointless to ask this "ding-a-ling" how Mahathir can possibly be "misquoted" when millions heard these remarks on national television. You would only risk getting an even more moronic reply. It will be a waste of energy reminding him that the MCA accepted Suiqiu's 17-point appeal before the Elections in November. Selective amnesia is one of his many illnesses. This is the quality of the person who is the putative head of the Chinese community: a person who not only refuses to speak up for the community when it is subject to verbal attacks, but goes beyond the pale in trying to cover up for the attacker. Ling's action may be compared to that of a father who, while ignoring the cries of his raped daughter, prefers to lend a hand to the rapist to get him back on his feet. Ling Liong Sik offers us the spectacle of a man who has so prostituted honour and principles that he virtually crawls to lick his master's boots. But what is the secret of Mahathir's power over this slave of his? It is no secret, for Ling's corruption and that of his billionaire son has already been well-publicised. There are, indeed, well over a billion reasons why Ling would want to stay in Mahathir's good books. Otherwise, not only will his license to cheat be withdrawn, but the man will also be called to account for all his past misdeeds. It is by this same threat of prosecution that Mahathir ensures the loyalty of his other worthless minions. As long as you continue to carry the dictator's balls, you can feather your nest with ungodly billions, allocate shares to your relatives, rape a child or bash a handcuffed prisoner nearly to death with complete immunity from prosecution. |
Soh it goes ... From corporate wolf to sacrificial lamb John Soh Chee Wen and his friend Patrick Lim once were two of Malaysia's most aggressive deal hunters. Now, they are hunted themselves. But what are they wanted for? The Securities Commission says they are investigating whether the two used "manipulative and deceptive devices" to buy and sell shares. Impressive indeed, considering how hard it has been for the SC to proceed against other corporate and political figures who didn't bother to be very deceptive in their share manipulation. And, of all those who used "manipulative and deceptive devices" to buy and sell shares, why pick these two? A quick read of the attached police reports would suggest there's enough evidence for honest investigators to bring several truly large figures to book. Soh himself implicates figures such as Ling Liong Sik, Tony Tiah and Rashid Hussain, among others. The amounts involved in some of the scams outlined run to many billions of ringgit. No, it's hard to believe Soh would have been pursued thus had he been of the top echelon. The easy interpretation is that Soh is a sacrificial lamb. Someone who can be offered up to distract those still asking who is to blame for this mess; someone who can be proof of regulators' intentions to finally get serious. Second Finance Minister Mustapa Mohamed said as much when the arrest warrant for Soh was announced. "This is a very clear signal to people who flout the rules and regulations that we mean business," he said, reportedly with a straight face. But the truth is probably at least a little more complex. Soh's relationship with a few political leaders suggests this may be a typical Mahathir-esque reminder to them to toe the line. And the fact that Soh and Lim absented themselves so conveniently before they could be arrested opens the possibility that they were never supposed to be caught - easy to believe after reading Soh's police report. Think about what he was holding back! Of course, it would be perverse to think of Soh as an innocent patsy. He certainly knew what he was doing when he exploded onto the corporate scene in the early 1990s. In no time, he was rubbing fins with the big fish in the Malaysian business world's shark tank and cultivating relationships with top politicians. A good feel for timing and self-promotion, a little judicious schmoozing, some backroom deals and before you know it, Mr Soh's a pretty big fish himself. But not quite big enough. With the onset of the Asian financial crisis, the shark tank suddenly became a lot less comfortable. And its occupants have handed John Soh a lesson on how fast you can get kicked down the food chain in corporate Malaysia. In case John Soh decides he feels too comfortable in Europe or South America to make it back to answer questions, freeMalaysia offers his statements to authorities, replacing one excerpt we had carried earlier: The Chairman Securities Commission No 3 Sri Semantan Satu, Bukit Damansara 50490 Kuala Lumpur (UP: Datuk Dr Munir Majid) 8th June 1998 Dear Sirs RE: INVESTIGATIONS INTO OMEGA SECURITIES SDN BHD The undersigned is the corporate lawyer for Dato Soh Chee Wen.
