freeMalaysia has long been suspicious of Mahathir Mohamad's sycophantic hatchetman, Dato' Seri Megat Junid Megat Ayub. He's always been a black sheep under Dr. M's long, dark shadow. Megat, more seasoned fM readers might recall, had been implicated in a scandal in the early 1990s with a Chinese woman who was involved in supplying uncensored videos. The scandal wasn't just about the big, under-the-counter business for small video outlets nationwide; it was also about the woman's murder. But as Deputy Home Affairs Minister, Megat managed to cover up his affair with the woman, and the police investigation looked elsewhere. In fact, Megat, now Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, figured prominently in many nefarious schemes to undermine Dr. M's political opponents after Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Musa Hitam resigned in March 1986. That's when Mahathir took over the ministry and made Megat its de facto chief, just in time to begin preparations for Operation Lalang in 1987, during which more than 100 critics of Dr. M's regime were arrested under the Internal Security Act. Megat "High-roller" Junid Now comes compelling evidence of Megat's hypocritical gambling forays in Perth. freeMalaysia is inclined to believe it - hypocrisy and severe character deficits seem to be standard issue among Dr M's hand-picked minions. |
MEGAT JUNID SEES NO PROBLEM IN SWITCHING TO PARIT IPOH, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Megat Junid Megat Ayob does not foresee any problem although he has been switched from the Pasir Salak to the Parit parliamentary constituency and is confident that Barisan Nasional (BN) will retain the seat in the Nov 29 general election. He said there was not much difference between Parit and Pasir Salak which were located close to each other and administered by the same district council, Perak Tengah. "There's no problem. I only need more time," the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister told reporters after opening a seminar on wholesale and retail trade for the northern zone, here. He said his initial survey showed that the Parit electorate already knew him and only wanted to meet him during the campaign. Megat Junid, who had been the Pasir Salak MP for 17 years, will be contesting against Ustaz Haji Mat Basir Rahmat of PAS for the Parit seat. -- BERNAMA |
