Jelly Belly Information

Basic Information

Jelly Belly is the company that makes the jelly beans of the same name. In my opinion, these are the best tasting jelly beans around. They use natural flavorings to provide true-to-life flavors. So when they have an uncommon jelly bean flavor such as Buttered Popcorn, it's really going to taste like popcorn. Even if you're not a big jelly bean fan, I'd suggest that you give Jelly Belly a try. You might be surprised. This is clearly just the barest background about the product. If you want more information, check out the official web site at JellyBelly.com.

Menu of Flavors

As of spring 2002, there are 50 official Jelly Belly flavors, 10 more than there used to be for many years (apparently almost two decades). For reference, JellyBelly began in 1976 with 8 flavors (Very Cherry, Lemon, Cream Soda, Tangerine, Green Apple, Root Beer, Grape, and Licorice). The official flavors are the ones that are available all year long, according to JellyBelly.com. They produce other flavors that are released for the holidays each year. There are also new flavors, sometimes called "rookie flavors", that are released to the public. Unfortunately, these aren't always easy to obtain. I found a sampler of rookie flavors only once that I can remember. You can buy individual flavors from the official site, but do you really want 1kg (2.2 lb) of a single flavor you've never tried before and might not like? I wish samplers/mixes of non-official flavors were easier to get. Anyway, depending on the popularity of these rookie flavors, some may make it into the line-up of official flavors, while less popular official flavors may be dropped. For pictures showing the colors of each flavor bean, try JellyBelly.com's flavor guide for the 50 offical flavors. Here's another version of the flavor menu from JellyBelly UK. Also take a look at http://www.weirdweb.net/jelly/menu.html which includes tips on distinguishing similar colored beans from each other.

As far as the non-official flavors go, here's a list of at least some of them. I found these listed on various web sites and Jelly Belly product packaging. Don't count on all of these being readily available. Some probably are available now, but others may be old flavors that were tried but are no longer made or seasonal flavors only available a few months of the year at most. I don't really know, this is just a collection of other Jelly Belly flavors I've found listed somewhere.

Non-Official Flavors: Apricot, Buttered Rum, Buttered Toast, Candy Cane, Carrot Cake, Champagne Bubbles, Champagne Punch, Chocolate Cherry Cake, Cinnamon Danish, Cinnamon Popcorn, Cinnamon Toast, Cranberry, Espresso, Fruit Bowl, Gingerbread, Gramma's Pumpkin Pie, Hawaiian Punch, Honey Graham Cracker, Hot Chocolate, Hot Cider, Key Lime Pie, Passion Fruit, Peppermint Stick, Pineapple, Roasted Garlic, Sours (Apple, Blueberry, Cherry, Grape, Lemon, Orange, Peach, Raspberry, Strawberry, Watermelon), Spearmint, Sugar Free (Buttered Popcorn, Cherry, Green Apple, Juicy Pear, Lemon, Licorice, Pineapple, Sizzling Cinnamon, Strawberry, Tangerine), Sweet Ginger, Wildberry.

Rookie Flavors: Since most of the old set of "Rookie Flavors" became part of the new official 50 flavors, there's been a fairly big change to this list. The newest menu I got from Jelly Belly (in a 50 flavor sampler gift box) says the new flavors are: Apricot, Buttered Toast, Chocolate Cherry Cake, Honey Graham Cracker, The last time I looked at the Jelly Belly UK site, they said that Cinnamon Toast and Roasted Garlic were the current rookie flavors.

Recipes

While Jelly Belly flavors taste great by themselves, eating one bean at a time, you can also create some other good flavors by eating a couple at once thus combining the individual flavors together into a new one. Jelly Belly products normally include a menu and a few recipes on or inside the packaging. I also found a few web sites with recipes and putting all of this together created the following list of recipes. Ones I got from Jelly Belly in some way (web site, printed menus, packaging, Taste Bud Club mailings, etc.) are tagged with (JB) just for reference. Here's the index page of the JellyBelly.com recipes page. Below is a section of links which is where I found most of the recipes that I didn't take right from Jelly Belly.

Closing

OK, so this isn't a fabulous page. It wasn't exactly meant to be; I made the page to gather together all the recipes I found so that I'd have the list in one place. Still, I hope that you've found something of interest here. Enjoy! :) Oh, by the way, if you came here via search engine or something and bypassed my main pages, here are links to my index page and my hobbies and interests page. The other primary page on my site is the about me page.
