    Extra credit opportunities

This is a senior level class...

To the extent possible we’ll allow time IN CLASS for you to work in your teams.

If I could give you ONE piece of advise about how to pass this class it would be:

      Start early.

As soon as you get your case assignment and your team get to work on researching your industry, your company.

Your challenges:

To keep up with the reading.

      To take the class seriously.

To be patient and thoughtful in dealing with team problems.

To TRY TO LEARN from all of this.

You’re busy, right?

      So are your team mates.

Most of you work, keep up relationships, pay bills, have outside interests.

You’ll have to STRETCH to do well.

Be prepared to sacrifice some of these commitments for brief periods of time.

      Whining is strictly forbidden.

We all have lives, you need to keep your promises.

Administrivia for today:

Please TELL ME if the course outline has any errors that conflict with dates you’re aware of.

      Data sheets

Hand-out folder, with Wall St. Journal, other sign-up forms.

Necessary pre-requisites have NOT been met by all students… Regretfully you’ll have to take the class another semester.

Sign class contract -- now or next class.

Some final points...

  Learn how to use PowerPoint

Get as much practice as you can with preparing graphics on programs such as EXCEL

If you are afraid of doing research try to get over it.

DON’T rely too heavily on the Internet for your research!

Abbreviated class notes are available on the business network.  They are intentionally INCOMPLETE.

To copy the PowerPoint notes, go to business lab, open PowerPoint, and “open file” using this procedure:

      Network Neighborhood

      Bus_Server

      Data

      Clasnote

      Bus475_Doe

      <filename you’re interested in>

You may also access class notes from the world wide web by going to:

For next time:

      Read the entire syllabus package.

You’ll be tested on its contents this week.

Read chapter one of the text book.

If you don’t have one, borrow a copy, or buy it.

If all else fails come and borrow a copy from me.
