Don't drink and drive.
Clarendon Crawl
04-05-03

Summary
I'm not going to lie to you, this Crawl has a different flavor.  This will be a race to the end at Dr. Dremos - truly the pinnacle of this misadventure.  A footrace with ethanol batons if you will.  The area bars are just about to bloom in a beautiful bonquet of outdoor patios... come dig on the first outside drinking night of the season!
The Plan
This is our rough plan, based on our past experience of crawl activities... we're planning this thing around one or two great bars, with a variety of little stops to feel like we know the town... biblically if necessary.
ETA Status Time on site Establishment Notes
      Clarendon Metro
8:00 meet point 20 min Clarendon Grill Show up early if you want to join us for dinner
8:30 widal* 20 min Aegean Tavern A shot of uzzo barkeep, if you please.  Yes, that is required.

10:15 widal* 20 min Galaxy Hut
Long Walk....
10:50 widal* 20 min Joseph's Bar and Grill First stop after the long walk of the night.  It only gets better from here!
11:20 rest 30 min Gua-Rapo The couches will be good for resting before the next stop.  Tapas too.
Irelands 4 Courts Backup for Gua-Rapo
12:00 PLAY! 2 hrs Dr. Dremos I love you Dr. Dremos!
Courthouse Metro Walk a block north and catch the train home

*widal = Walk In Drink And Leave

Total walking time was clocked at 15 - 20 minutes, not too bad.  There's always a difficult selection process, where we realize that some great places simply won't fit into our lives.  Oh, did we have to cut old standbys like Mr. Days?  That's the world's smallest violin playing for you, you cover charging overhyped... uh, suffice to say we won't be going to Mr. Days.

The evenings first pitch (get it?)

A classic pose.

Aegean Tavern

Before Brian cuts me off and tell MY story, as we were all doing shots I was joking with the lady behind the bar about how much I like usso (and I do). When we had two extra shots Brian and I decided we had to do them as it was our crawl. Then, since I like usso so much, I asked for a picture from behind the bar. This got me another shot of usso and and invitation to come back to learn Greek dancing. I'll be back, oh yes, I will be back.

Of course, by this time I was lightly toasted. Damn that sweet licorice ambrosia!

Here is an unbiased report from Crawler Courtney:

"Hey guys! I doubt many others from last night's Crawl are awake/conscious yet, so I guess it's my job to report from the front-lines. I was a designated driver, which may also leave me with better memories of the evening. It was great! The first three bars (and 4 hours) were better than I could have hoped. The most unexpected hit of the evening was definitely the stop at the Greek restaurant, but it was also the most "crawl-like" activity and very fun for all parties. I can't wait to see the pictures from that! "

Eddie found a link  to the band that was playing. They were a good Dave Matthew's-ish college type band, I endorse them as good bar ambiance.

I like to think that this couple is some how my fault too.

Never made it here.  They had a cover.  What can I say?

These two met on our last Crawl.  I take full credit for the fact they are still together.

Here I spilled a pitcher onto Kelly (sorry Kel!)

I honestly don't even remember this shot.  I wish I did.

Damn drunk kids. . .

Gua-Rapo

In addition, some tables had these giant tobacco hookas.  Apparantly (and I did not try them), the tobacco is flavored like strawberries and such.  Very odd.

The band here was good and played an eclectic mix of music. I especially noticed the Asian singer who didn't sing Asian and therefore reminded me of a scene from "Fear of a Black Hat."

Of special note here is that I got to break up a fight. Two guys started punching and kicking each other and I rushed in resplendent in my bright glowing yellow rain jacket. Frankly, that's probably what elicited the blank stares at me as I told them to 'cut that shit out'. One of the combatant's friends then stepped in and escorted him out of there.

A special thanks goes out to our designated drivers.  Keep on rollin' boys!
