Josh's View
"Melissa! Are you OK?" I asked rushing to Melissa's side. I shook her
gently and waited to see if she would open her eyes. Luckily she did.
"Are you OK?" I asked her. She looked around and then up at me.
"I don't know, I'm so dizzy," she said under her breath.
"Lets get you to bed," I said starting to get up.
"No! I still have to do some stuff! The Backstreet Boys are going to be on
MTV any minute and I have to call Katie..."
"You aren't doing any of those things," I said sternly. "You're
going to bed."
"I don't want to Josh!" she said. I got up and grabbed her arm gently
pulling her up. She swayed slightly but I put my arm around her.
"What in God's name is going on!?" My dad yelled coming up the
stairs.
"Melissa passed out," I said looking up at him. He glared at me and
then at Melissa and exclaimed, "You ruined my dinner!"
"Ruined your dinner? We ruined your dinner? Well, sorry! Melissa just
passed out and you don't care? What kind of father are you Dad?" I asked.
He looked at me angrily and I right away regretted saying what I did.
"What did you just say boy?"
"Nothing, forget I said anything," I said stepping back slightly.
"Don't bad talk me boy! Don't you ever bad talk me! You know what? Don't
even speak!" he yelled. Melissa flinched and turned her head away from
him.
"I didn't say anything, I didn't bad mouth you," I said under my
breath.
"Are you calling me a liar!?" he yelled. That was my cue to just get
out of there. I took Melissa and walked swiftly down the hall to my room. I
pushed Melissa in and then slammed the door behind me.
"JOSHUA! Don't you ever run away from me!" he yelled stomping down
the hall. I locked the door and walked over to Melissa who was on the floor
holding her head.
"Are you sure you're OK?" I asked sitting next to her.
"I don't know," she said shaking her head.
"OPEN THIS DOOR!" my dad said on the other side of the door. He was
banging the door trying to get in. I ignored it and turned back to Melissa.
"Do you need a doctor?" I asked.
"No, I'll be fine," she said looking at me and slightly smiling.
"All right, you're gonna stay in here tonight OK? I don't want you being
alone," I said. She nodded her head and said, "OK, good idea."
"Of course it is, I thought of it," I smiled at her. She elbowed me
in the stomach and laughed lightly.
"You hit hard Sis," I said rubbing my stomach.
"No, you're just a big weakling," she laughed.
"Loser Backstreet Boy wannabe," I said sticking my tongue out at her.
She smacked my leg and laughed lightly. The pounding on the door stopped just
then and we could both hear his footsteps pound down the hall. I sighed deeply
and then jumped but I heard a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," Melissa said getting up. She opened the door and Dawn
slid in.
"Hi," she said coming over to me. Melissa closed the door and joined
all of us on the floor.
"What happened?" Dawn asked looking at the both of us.
"Mel passed out in the hall," I said.
"Oh she did?" Dawn frowned and then turned to Melissa, "Are you
OK?"
"I'm fine," Melissa said exasperated.
"What was dad yelling about?"
"He got mad at me for talking back to him," I said.
"You talked back to him? Are you nuts? Josh! You know you shouldn't do
that!" Dawn exclaimed.
"I know but it just slipped out, I'm fine though, so that's all that
matters," I said.
"Yeah but he'll get you sooner or later," Dawn mumbled.
"Look, we're all fine, lets just forget about it and plus we have
something to tell Mel anyway right?" I asked looking at Dawn. Dawn smiled
and nodded her head, "Oh yeah!"
"What are you talking about?" Melissa asked confused looking at the
both of us.
"We have a surprise for you," I said as Dawn got up and went to my
desk.
"A surprise? Why? I didn't do anything," she said. Dawn came back
with an envelope and gave it to me. She then sat back down.
"I know but this is a good thing, we did something for you that you'll
probably love us for," I smiled.
"What did you do?" she asked curious. I pulled the letter out of the
envelope and asked, "Have you ever heard of Make a Wish Foundation?"
"Yeah...what about it?" she asked.
"Well, Dawn and I wrote in for you saying how much you love the Backstreet
Boys," I said looking over the letter.
"What? You did?" she asked wide eyed.
I smiled and nodded my head, "And lookie here! What could this say!?"
"Tell me! Please tell me!" she said trying to grab the letter out of
my hand. I snatched it out of her grasp and laughed, "Be patient."
"Patient!? Just tell me!" she shrieked. I laughed and said, "OK
OK jeez, Now right here...on this little line...it says something that would
make your dreams come true...would you like to know what it says?"
"DUH! JOSH JUST TELL ME!" Melissa exclaimed.
"All right, All right!" I laughed. "Melissa...how would you like
to meet the Backstreet Boys?"
