Ducks
Dethrone Kings
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim flew high on the
Pond in Anaheim, CA versus their cross-state rivals,
the LA Kings. Sergei Federov, Vaclav Prospal, and
Steve Rucchin each tallied goals for the Ducks in
the third period to carry them to a 6-3 victory over
the Kings. The tone began early when Anaheim goalie
Jean-Sebastien Giguere raced from the crease to track
down Kings forward Sean Avery after Avery had words
for Giguere. "You have to stand up to those guys,
they are our neighbors and we hate each other,'' said
Giguere, who made 41 saves. "We wanted to send
them a message.'' With the game tied 3-3 early in
the third, Fedorov intercepted a pass by Los Angeles
defenseman Brad Norton in the offensive zone and ripped
a wrist shot past goalie Cristobal Huet. After Prospal
scored on a wrist shot from the right circle, Rucchin
blasted a slap shot by Huet to position the Ducks
for the victory. Huet was replaced by Mathieu Chouinard
after yielding the sixth Ducks goal. "We had
six defenseman dressed, the problem is the six we
had out on the ice didn't get the job done,'' Kings
coach Andy Murray said.
