October 2, 2001

The weather has been just perfect the last two weeks.  It is so refreshing to step outside first thing in the morning and get hit with a blast of cool morning air and see the condensation lying thick on the grass.  By afternoon the day has warmed up to be very comfortable, but not hot.  I wonder if we can have days like this for very long.  I suppose not.  This kind of weather reminds us that winter is not far behind and we had better enjoy the fall while it is with us.

Of course this time of year also reminds us of things that will be happening in our lives.  Halloween is right around the corner and Thanksgiving isn't far down the road.  And then there is Christmas and another year has vanished from our calendars.  If you are like me, you're wondering where the year went.

The church programs are in operation.  Almost every night of the week something is going on at DTCC.  Sunday's are always crammed with services both morning and night with youth programs surrounding the evening SALT service.  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights you can find Bible studies going on for most of the year.  On top of this there is the Fall Retreat scheduled for three weeks from now- October 19th to the 21st.  The Rev. Joe Bryan will be the guest speaker at the retreat, concluding with the Sunday morning worship service.  I do hope that you will plan on attending.  In light of all that has happened since the 11th of September, we as Christians really need to be asking ourselves if we are doing all we can to serve Christ and His Church.  We need to be able to help others find their spiritual way to the cross when they find that their way is not doing the job.  As I mentioned last Sunday, Paul admonishes Timothy and all Christians to "Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…"

There are a lot of exciting things going on around DTCC and I hope that you are a part of those activities.  Take time to go out to the back corner of the ball field and see what Nathan Luechauer is doing in preparing a devotional area for all of us to use.  This is for his Eagle Scout badge that he is working on and he has a lot of help from other scouts, parents, leaders, and a lot of help from dad.  When it is done, it will be a very nice place to go and worship with others or just spend some time alone with your Father who is in Heaven.

Let us gather together as the Saints did in Paul's day to read scripture, pray, hear the Word, and have communion.   See you all this Sunday.
