October 23, 2001

If you had attended the Fall Retreat you would have been blessed by the lectures, small group discussion, large group discussion and the overall interaction that took place among young and old, men and women.  It was a great day and a half that ended on Sunday morning with our guest lecturer, Rev. Joe Bryan preaching.  Many of you stayed for the luncheon that was provided and got a glimpse of what we had enjoyed Friday evening and all day Saturday.  Special thanks goes to the membership committee chaired by Julie Western along with Patsy Keith and Trina Luechauer.  Together they designed a program that was educational, entertaining, and relaxing.  Thanks also goes out to the 11th Chapter and Bill and Laura Huff for the special entertainment they gave us on Saturday.  It was something very special.  I cannot close this segment without giving a big "thank you" to Doris Walters who provided the snacks for everyone during the retreat.  She did an outstanding job and there was more than enough goodies to go around.  She not only provided the cookies and made sure the drinks were on the table to use at will, she did it with a smile.  And you just can't ask for more than that!

By now this is old news, but I felt I needed to say something.  Karen and I have been here at DTCC four years.  I have appreciated them and come to love you people as my family.  In addition, our son is here and daughter and husband and grandchildren, whom you all know.  Family is very important to me and we enjoy having them around.  But I also have a deep sense of responsibility to what I perceive to be my duties.  Although we have done many good things there are some things that I feel need to be done that I simply will not be able to do.  I said before coming here that I would know when the time came that the congregation needed to find someone else to lead them forward.  If the church is alive and doing the work of the Lord, there will be many times that change must occur.  This is one of those times.  In order for DTCC to move forward, I need to step aside.  I have turned my resignation in to the board effective the end of the year.  This has not been an easy decision, but one that is necessary.  You now have the opportunity to determine where you want to be in the next five years and to find someone who will be able to lead you.  I do ask that you be supportive of your church leadership and give them the direction they need as they look to the future of Decatur Trinity Christian Church.

Meanwhile, let us continue to worship together and find new ways to serve the Master.  I look forward to seeing you all this Sunday as we praise the name of Jesus.

NOTES OF APPRECIATION

I can’t say thank you enough for all the many things you done for Lem and me.  You took me to see Lem for two weeks, you cooked us the greatest food, and all the cards you would not believe.  And people are still wanting to do for us.  But keep praying as we still need this.  We love you all.       Betty Gorden

I would like to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make our retreat a huge success.   Thanks especially to Joe Bryan, Tommy Henegar, Patsy Keith, Trina Luechauer, the 11th Chapter, Bill & Laura Huff, Doris Walters, and Carrie Calvin.             Julie Western
