November 6, 2001

There are many people needed to keep a church like Decatur Trinity going.  As you can imagine there are a hundred different jobs that need doing and far less that are willing to give their time and energy to doing them.  But once in a while there is a person who is willing to give an abundance of their free time to working at the church.  Such a person is Dave Luechauer.  Before I leave Decatur Trinity Christian Church I want to say to Dave "thank you for a job well done!"  Dave has always been ready and willing to work in the "Lord's Vineyard" when called upon and because of his willingness much has been accomplished.

His most recent projects are the outdoor worship area in which he has been instrumental in planning and executing along with his son Nathan.  Dave has put many hours into the building of this worship area that will provide a wonderful place for groups and individuals to go and spend some silent time with God.  In case you haven't seen what has been done go and look in the Northwest corner of the playing field and you will see benches and a worship center.  There is also water brought to the area for drinking and watering the shrubs and electricity for lighting and other needs.  It is an excellent worship center and we have Dave to thank for doing such a great job.

This past weekend he worked many hours on stripping the CFC floor and putting down new boundary lines and then coating then entire floor with a durable wax.  Bob Keith was also very involved as well as our custodian, Rod Kitterman.  Other workers were Nathan Luechauer, David Western, Kevin Whitehead and Joey Weir.    They did a great job and the floor looks so much better than it did before.  We can be thankful that these men were willing to give up many hours to work on the floor.  Again, thank you Dave for giving of your time, talent, and energy to help improve DTCC.

Many of you have been so kind in telling Karen and myself how much you are going to miss us when we leave.  Then you have asked where we are going.  There are some who still may not know and I was asked to let everyone know.  We will be going to Sun City, Arizona which is about 15 miles north of Phoenix.  Sun City is a planned community of approximately 45,000 people that has no public schools.  You have to be 55 or older to buy a house in that city.  I am going as senior minister to one of our outstanding Disciple churches.  People come to Sun City from all over the country to retire and enjoy the sun.  The average age of that congregation of 700 plus members is 76.  They have no youth group and the youngest member of that church will probably be Karen and myself.  But they are an active group of Christians who have a high priority on missions.  Karen and I are looking forward to going to Sun City and want all of you to know that "my house is your house".  We will have plenty of room and a welcome mat at the front door.

MEET OUR NEW MEMBER

Last Sunday, we welcomed Todd Hardin into the fellowship of DTCC.  Todd, a native of Humboldt, TN, grew up at Central Christian Church in Humboldt.  He moved to Memphis several years ago after graduating from Murray State University in Murray, KY.  Todd works as a systems analyst for Swift Transportation.  He enjoys riding motorcycles and owns a BMW 1100.  He also enjoys canoeing, fishing and playing pool.  Todd has been visiting DTCC for awhile and finds the members friendly and welcoming.  He says Decatur reminds him of his home church.  Please welcome Todd.

CWF Meetings

Lydia – Carol Starr, leader, will meet on Monday, November 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mimi Dowling.

“Dessert First”

This Sunday we sang a hymn which I had not heard before, “There’s a Quiet Understanding.”  Some of the words are as follows: “Thank you, thank you, Jesus, for the way you love and feed us, for the many ways you lead us, thank you, thank you, Lord.”

Isn’t that really the meaning of “Dessert First”?  God wants us to treasure his love, not our treasures.  He provides all our physical and spiritual needs.

Celebration Sunday for our 2002 stewardship campaign is November 18.  Please bring or mail your Estimate of Giving card this week.  If you need a card, there are cards in the church pews or you can call the office to have a card mailed to you.
