November 13, 2001

This past Sunday was a busy day in the life of Decatur Trinity Christian Church.  We had our normal Church School hour and then came the worship time.  Our church handbell choir began the service which always adds to the worshipping mood.  The Carpenter's Crew sang two numbers for us that was enjoyed by all.  And we had the Rev. Rebecca Ball Hale, the new Associate Regional Minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee, preach.  She brought a wonderful message on the need to move on and many of the problems that accompany moving on both physically and emotionally.  She related that need to move on with where DTCC is and that in order to understand the workings of God the church must move on.  I thought she hit the nail on the head and hope that those of you who heard her message will think about where this congregation needs to be in the future.

But that wasn't the only thing happening on Sunday.  In the afternoon we had a celebration service for one of our long time members, Paul Russell Parks.  There were a good number of people who came to be with the family and pay their respects to one who had influenced their lives as children and young people.  It is always sad to say good-bye to one that has been such a part of so many people's lives, but it is also a relief to know that they don't suffer any more.  We wish the Parks family the very best as they deal with the parting of a mate and father and grandfather and great-grandfather and even a great-great-grandfather.  To Mr. Parks we say "Thanks for the memories."

This is the final week of the stewardship campaign and we need your estimate of giving card in as soon as possible.  On Sunday we will be hearing from the Chairman of the Stewardship committee giving an update as to the number of estimate cards received and how much they total up to.  If you haven't turned a card in and wish to do so, please call Ada at the office and let her know and she will be sure to count you in on the total.  Thanks to all of you who have already made your estimate of giving.  It confirms your willingness to support the work at DTCC and your commitment to serving His kingdom.

This Sunday I will be preaching on the subject "No Such Thing As A Risk Free Faith."  Hope that you will come and be a part of the worship service.

DTCC Early Learning Center Update

Did you know that if you come up to the church on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, you’ll hear children?  Right now, there are eleven little children, ages 1 thru 4, learning and playing together in our Christian Ed building.  They, plus four teacher, make up DTCC’s Early Learning Center (ELC).  This is a Mother’s Day Out opportunity for the community.  For the 3 & 4 year-old classes, we offer an excellent pre-kindergarten curriculum.  The smaller children also fill their time with learning activities as well as just plain fun!

We presently have openings in all classes, especially in the pre-K 4 year-old class.  Please support this community outreach ministry by spreading the word with anyone you know who might be interested in this Christian based program for children.  Our goal is 20 pre-schoolers.  This ministry is just one way we reach out to our neighbors in the name of Jesus.  Your prayers for the program’s success are appreciated.  Call Trina Luechauer, ELC Director, for more information or for registration at 388-2136.
