From the Minister's Desk
Our needs become so great at times it is hard to get in touch with other people's hurts and needs. This was never so evident to me as it was a couple weeks ago when the elders met for their regular business and prayer meeting. At the end of the scheduled meeting the chair will ask for names to remember in prayer. As the elders were discussing those who needed special attention, I looked around the table of approximately 15 elders and thought about everyone sitting at the table. There wasn't a one who did not have some kind of special concern in their lives. It might have been illness in the family or concern over the well-being of children, but without exception every person in that room had concerns of a personal nature and yet we were being asked to remember others in the congregation. I commented on what I considered major concerns with each person around that table and that they had their plates full already. And still we are asked to remember others. Isn't that what Christ expects us to do? To somehow move beyond our own hurts and needs and focus on what other people are dealing with.
This is part of the Lenten Season. A time to move past our hurts and needs and remember others who are struggling with life. Last week the sermon was about reconciliation and our need to find God again in our lives. We need to be brought back into that relationship of love and concern for each other as God has for us. This week I want us to look at the way two people reacted to Jesus. Both of these people knew Him and spent much time with Him while he preached and healed among the people. But both of them had very different responses.
Plan on worshipping with us as we celebrate the fifth Sunday in Lent. Your presence is requested by the One who gave himself so freely on our behalf. You do need to remember and set your clocks ahead one hour or else you will miss the morning service.
