September 25, 2001

If you were to ask different people what church was to them you would get many answers.  But I think they would all have to do with service of some kind.  In the past few years we have seen a growth in programs that are offered to our membership as well as the community.  Because we don't speak about them very often many of you may not be aware of how much is happening at Decatur Trinity Christian Church.  Two years ago Susan Roaten introduced the Disciple study series for people willing to commit themselves to 34 weeks of Bible study.  She has had a class every year since and is into her third year.  Bill Parks continued with Disciple II and has had two classes for the advanced student.  This year Bill is offering Disciple III and has a full class committed to studying every week until May.  We need to let both of them know how much we appreciate their time and talents.  Last year Patsy Keith began a women's Bible study on Friday mornings.  It became evident that Friday mornings would not be enough and so she expanded it to Thursday evenings with Ginger Moore teaching.  This year Ginger has approximately 10 women in her Thursday night class and Patsy has another 20 students in her Friday morning class.  A year ago Donna and Wayne Climer began an evening Bible study on Tuesday evenings.  There were consistently 15 to 18 people present on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  They are still continuing Bible study this year and are open to anyone wanting to join them.  We owe a big "thank you" to these servants who have taken it upon themselves to provide opportunities to study the Word.

Most of you are aware of our Early Learning Center that began over a year ago.  We are now in our second year and the program is running smoothly.  We did have a change in personnel but we were able to continue without much interruption.  Trina Luechauer is our Director and we are anticipating another good year.

Because of a donation two years ago by a family in our congregation, we were able to purchase a nice set of hand bells.  For the past two years we have been fortunate to have a bell choir that has played on several occasions.  We always look forward to their contribution to the worship service.

As you can see, we have not been standing still at DTCC.  I need to mention the skating on Friday nights which has become a major attraction for the community.  Thanks to the leadership of Dave Luechauer, we have as many as 50 children who come to skate on Friday evenings.

Thanks to all these people who contribute their time and talents to making DTCC a place to worship and fellowship.

NOTES OF APPRECIATION

I want to thank everyone for the calls, visits, cards and prayers during my illness.  We are so blessed to be a part of such a loving and caring congregation.

      In Christian love, Ray Payne

Thank you very much for supporting me in my Eagle Scout Project, the Outdoor Worship Area.  I really appreciation all of the many donations that have been given.  Your presence at the Spaghetti Dinner was greatly appreciated.  I felt overwhelmed when I found out I had raised over $1600. at the dinner.  All of your donations will help to make my project a BIG success!  Thanks again for being a loving and supportive church family.

                              Nathan Luechauer

The Carpenter’s Crew would like to thank everyone who attended their recent concert.  It was a huge success.  It would be impossible for us to thank everyone by name who helped in putting this event on.  From setting up and working light, to taking pictures, to preparing food, you can see it takes many devoted people.  Thanks to all!  We’re looking forward for even a bigger 2002 concert.  See ya next year.
