Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR :

DT: When, where and how the band was formed?- Current Line - up
Ronnie van der Wey :
DEAD HEAD was formed March 1989. Two members from the band LETHARGY and two members from a band called SERPENT joined together in order to form the most aggressive Thrash band from Europe. Two members live in Zwolle and two in Kampen. A lot of Dutch bands played very well but they nearly all missed some power band brutality. So we wanted a clear statement by playing extreme Death/Thrash Metal in vein of KREATOR's "Pleasure To Kill" and POSSESSED "Seven Churches".
The current line - up is :
Tom van Dijk - Vocals / Bass
Robbie Woning - Guitar
Ronnie van der Wey - Guitar
Hans Spijker - Drums

DT:
What topic do you trade in your songs?
Ronnie van der Wey :
We write about things that fit to the music. We got songs about murder, rape, vices, religion, evil, death, psychotic maniacs, the dark side of life, etc. But I must say that the lyrics are only a small part of what we do, the music is much more important. We think.

DT: What do you think about Skinheads?
Ronnie van der Wey :
They're just people who have certain political ideas. In DEAD HEAD we try to avoid politics as much as possible. We don't say we're against them or we share their opinions. In any case, we prefer to release our aggression throught our music.

DT:
What style do you play?
Ronnie van der Wey :
I think it's obvious that we play some kind of Thrash Metal. We don't say : 'Now we're going to make a Doom or Death Metal song'. Of course we are being influenced by Death Metal bands, so you may find a little back of that. We always try to something that kills. It's the intensity counts.

DT:
Are you happy with "PROMO TAPE - LIVE '89"?
Ronnie van der Wey :
Yes, we're happy with the thing. It brought us a lot of success and publicity, and it sold about 900 copies. For it is a Live - Tape, we may not complain. But we're 1 1/2 year further, so in certain ways we have a changed point of view towards some musical parts of that time. Our new Demo 'The Festering' will prove that we have grown a lot since that Live - Tape.

DT: Your musical productions?
Ronnie van der Wey :
July '89 : Live Promo Tape with six live tracks, soundboard recording. On the B - side you find former band LETHARGY's 'Anaesthesic Sleep' Demo.
December '89 : Two DEAD HEAD tracks on Dutch Compilation CD 'Metal in Rocks' volume II'. We delivered 'Rites of Kandar' and 'I, Tormentor'.
January '90 : 'From Belial' Demo with 5 songs. Was never released due to a lot of uninteresting reasons.
December '90: 'The Festering' Demo. A new 24 - track recording, containing 5 brand new songs. Very good quality.

DT:
Your influences?
Ronnie van der Wey :
You can read our personal influences and other specifications in the enclosed info sheet.

DT:
What do you think about Satan?
Ronnie van der Wey :
I think Satan and other occult things are part of a world we don't know everything about. A lot of things in life are mystery and we are sometimes allowed to have a little lokk inside. There is a great part of the soul that still remains unexplored, maybe after death we gain some knowledge about that.

DT: Do you think in Anarchy like an alternative for a positive change in this society?
Ronnie van der Wey :
Anarchy has its advantages. I lets people free to do what they want to do. But I'm convinced that when anarchy is the standard, there are as much problems as there are now. So the answer to your question is no.

DT:
Do you believe in God?, what do you think about Religion?
Ronnie van der Wey :
I certainly do not believe in God as it is presented in the Holy Bible. I believe in God as it stands for justice, peace and the part of life that no - one of us will ever understand. About religion I only want to say that it sucks. People need other people who think for them, and religion provides that need for certainty.

DT:
What do you know about Peruvian Scene?
Ronnie van der Wey :
Very little, in fact. We read a lot about South American bands, I think in the near future there will be some really great releases from South American bads. We know thet the people are extremely devoted Thrash / Death Metal, and that's good thing.

DT:
Your influences?
Ronnie van der Wey :
See question 7.

DT:
Ha ha ha !!!

DT:
What can you tell me about the scene in your country?
Ronnie van der Wey :
We have a very vivid scene down here, a lot of bands playing in a lot of good clubs. There's only one problem, few bands have the right attitude towards Thrash Metal. But I think everything will be fine with bands like THANATOS, KORSAKOV, PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, NECROSHIZMA, DELIRIUM, DESULTORY.

DT: Anything more for DEATHTHRASHER readers?
