Interview for DEATHTHRASHER MAGAZINE by ARMANDO MUTILATOR

DT: When and why the band was formed?. (Your current line -up).
E:
We formed in August 97 under the name of HACKTICIAN and changed the name to EXCARNATED a year after. We decided to do Ultra Brutal Death / Grind but we have a total death metal sound now. Our current line-up is CHRIS (Vocals/Programming), TONY (Guitar), RODNEY (Guitar) and NICK (Bass).

DT:
Your influences?.
E:
We are influenced by Dark Death Metal bands in general, but we are beginning to forge our own sound as each year passes. You named the bands later on in the interview.

DT:
Tell us about your "Let the Hatred Manifest" (1998).
E:
This Demo was our first one under the name of EXCARNATED and for its time it is good for what it is. I still listen to it occasionally. We still play the title track at gigs and rehearsals as it is more of an indication to our current direction.

DT:
Do you like old Heavy Metal?.
E:
Of course as it is what I was brought up with. I like all styles of Metal except for weak "Power" Metal, Gothic gay shit and Nu-"metal". Death Metal is my favourite style though.

DT:
Do you like Horror movies?.
E:
I like Horror movies but particularly the older ones as the new ones are mainly mainstream Hollywood crap. Some of my Faves are DAWN OF THE DEAD, HELLRAISER, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, THE EXORCIST, EVIL DEAD and many more from that era.

DT:
What can you talk me about your Demo "Genital Gallery" (1999).
E:
This is our Second Demo and I liked the songs better as we were heading in a more death metal direction with darker songs. The production could have been better but we have learned from these Demos about how to use the studio better. The only song that we have not re-recorded on future recordings is "Orgiastic Abominations". It is a good song but it does not really suit our style anymore.

DT:
Do you think about the South American Satanist Master, MARCELO TINELLI ?.
E:
To be honest I have not heard of him but he sounds cool to me.

DT:
Do you like Hardcore / Punk?, yes or no, and why?.
E:
It really is not my cup of tea to be honest with you. I can't relate to people screaming in shorts about how tough they are and dressing like a five year old. I don't mind some Punk though like SEX PISTOLS or GG ALLIN. That is real Punk and not the shit they call pop punk these days.

DT:
Are you into drugs?, do you like the AMERICAN PIT BULLS?.
E:
I cant say that I am into drugs. We kicked out a member due to him doing hard drugs and it affected his playing and commitment to the band so he had to go. Sorry I have not heard of the AMERICAN PITBULLS.

DT:
Talk me about your debut CD "Homicidal Decimation" (2002).
E:
This is our first CD and I am really proud of what we achieved with it as it was done as a 2 piece and we busted our asses doing it. Production wise it kills the Demo's but we had a few too many old songs on it as we had no new ones at the time. Aside from that it is a killer first release. The next CD will have songs from our current line-up.

DT:
Do you like AC/DC?.
E:
The early stuff is OK and it is the first Heavy band I got into that got me into the harder music that I listen to now. They put on a killer show and they refuse to change like all of the trends so I respect them for that.

DT:
Do you remember MORTAL SIN?.
E:
The best thing that they done was "Mayhemic Destruction". They have reformed and I recently saw them play but it is not the same as the old stuff. They have been going for years though and are one of our most well known bands so good on them for putting Aussie Metal on the international map.

DT: What do you think about ALBERT FISH?.
E:
He was a really sick man from what I have read about him. He had some "interesting" hobbies as well.

DT:
What do you know about South American Underground scene? (Bands, Magazines, 'zines, etc...).
E:
I know that you have a very thriving scene. I know of tons of bands and I get heaps of flyers from your way. I like your scene as it has plenty of barbaric underground acts and the metal fans seem so dedicated. Favourites are SACOFAGO, MORTEM, KRISIUN, MENTAL HORROR, ABHORRENCE, (early) SEPULTURA, APOCALYPTIC RAIDS, MYSTIFIER, and many more.

DT:
Do you remember SHOKO ASAHARA and THE SUPREME TRUTH?.
E: No

DT:
MONIQUE PARDO or ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN?
E:
I like ANNEKE from the photos I have seen. Their music is shit though

DT:
Do you know WHERE ECHOES END?.
E:
No

DT:
WEBSTER or ARNOLD JACKSON?.
E:
I used to watch DIFFERENT STROKES so I will Say ARNOLD.

DT:
What do you think about Glam bands like POISON and WARRANT?
E:
They should all be killed off and it is great that that poser scene is dead. Glam still exists though. Just look at all of the Goth crap and Power Metal that all the major labels release these days.

DT:
Are you into Boxing? are you a MIKE TYSON's fan?.
E:
I have seen a few matches on TV and MIKE TYSON fights like a demon.

DT:
Are you friends with KOLOSTOMY BAG?.
E:
I have heard of this band and have spoken to the bass player once but that is all I know about them.

DT:
Are you into drugs?.
E:
No, only beer and Metal !!!!!

DT:
Do you like STAR WARS? Do you like the Action Figures? are you a collector?.
E:
I can't say that I am a collector but the first 3 STAR WARS are the best. The remakes do not do the old ones justice.

DT: What do you think about the DIMMU BORGIR's Grammy?.
E:
That is a joke. Like I said about the Glam bands before. I could not imagine a Death Metal band getting one.

DT:
Your fave 10 albums from all the times?.
E:
I will give you a list but I like heaps of albums. In no order
1. MORBID ANGEL "Altars Of Madness"
2. AUTOPSY "Mental Funeral"
3. GRAVE "Into the grave"
4. IMMOLATION "Dawn of possession"
5. POSSESSED "Seven Churches"
6. VOIVOD "Killing Technology"
7. INCANTATION "Onward to Golgotha"
8. NAPALM DEATH "Scum/From Enslavement"
9. GODFLESH "Streetcleaner"
10. MORTICIAN "Mortal Massacre"

DT:
ARMOURED ANGEL or ANARAZEL?.
E:
I like both bands.

DT:
Your future plans?.
E:
We are currently writing new songs for our forthcoming second CD that will be recorded early next year if all goes well. Also we are preparing to do some shows with the new line-up that came together at the start of the year.

DT:
Your last comment for DEATHTHRASHER's readers?.
E:
Cheers and thanks for supporting EXCARNATED and also to the South American maniacs who are reading this as well as the Metalheads around the globe. DEATH METAL FOREVER !!!!!
