Scythia![]() Area in and around Roman Empire - 0 AD Scythia was an area in what is now southern Russia between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea between 600 BC and 100 AD. Scythians were nomads who also went westward into what is now Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Poland. A group may have also gone to northern Egypt. They were wealthy and somewhat cultured. Some of the descendants of Scythian rulers migrated to what is now Spain and then to Ireland and Scotland. Some analysts say that Scotland got its name from Scythia, others say it came from the wife of one of the rulers (daughter of an Egyptian Pharaoh) named Scota. |
