12 Reasons for Substance Abuse Relapse

1.  Denial, feeling good, dishonest about craving.

2.  Going back to same old people, places, things (–not making any positive changes).

3.  Too much idle time.  Not enough positives to fill the void.

4.  Feels too good to have a problem.  Would have to give up good times and friends.  Too much of a sacrifice.

5.  Family, friends, circumstances influence behavior.

6.  Misses the medications effect (including euphoria and oblivion).

7.  Misses the social effect.

8.  Has never experienced any real trauma, pain or bad experiences.

9.  Death wish, by accident, by slow suicide, or by overdose by abuse.

10. No support, such as AA, groups, church, positive friends, socialization.

11. No goals or effort for spirituality, insight, unselfishness.

12. Not working on psychological improvement: anger, coping, stress, problem solving.
