Tamil Ladies Association Dubai

JANUARY


The Annual General Body meeting was held on the 20th of January 2006 at the India Club
to elect the members of the new committee for 2006 & 2007.
During the AGM many issues were discussed, particularly matter relating
to the punctuality of starting a programme,wastage of food,non–response of the
members to their confirmation,irregular attendance of the members and the like.
Happy and contended with the performance of the present members opted for
the continuation of the present committee.

Mrs. Girija Murlidharan , the former President and Mrs.Latha Sekar, the former treasurer
choose to step out and give chances to new and other members.

Taking into account the suggestions of the members present for the AGM ,
the committee would like to take some new steps for the betterment of the association.

The calendar year for TLA will be from January to December,
renewal and new membership will be done only during the first three months,
starting the programme on time and few more.

We are happy to say few of our members have volunteered to assist
the committee as and when required.

The new committee looks forward to organize new and interesting programmes
with the cooperation of its members. Members are welcomed
to give ideas and suggestion to the committee.

Up coming programme will be announced soon.

Dubai's prevailing climate calls for an outing.Hence,
TLA has arranged a picnic on 10'Th of Feb 2006
at the Mamzar Park from 11.00a.m to 5.00p.m.
Come along with your family and have a fulfilled day.
We will be having lots of games, a little bit of sports
and lots of fun. We have planned this outing so that everyone
can come and relax, especially for the children who will be
taking their exams soon and for the mothers who are stressed out teaching
their children.We are not excluding the fathers who are also stressed
with their official duties, take a break from the routine
and join us for the picnic.
We would like to have your confirmation so that
food can be arranged.

March


TLA organized its third annual CHILDREN’S COMPETITION on 24’th of March 2006 at the Elite English School.After the success of the two previous competition, TLA introduced three new categories viz:-elocution, monoact and instrumental sections.These categories were added after taking into consideration, the suggestion from its members. Nine categories in three levels(age-wise);to accomplish this TLA organized a full day competition from 11:00a.m to 7:30p.m.Sixty children aged between 6years and 18 yearstook part in the competition. In all there were 150 participants. With the support of the sponsors, the association members, their families and well-wishers, the competition was a huge success.


APRIL

TLA plan’s to celebrate its TAMIL NEW YEAR on 20’th of April , 2006.We plan to have a cultural evening of folk dances, skit, debate, talent and fashion parade.We will also have the prize distribution,for the winners of the children’s competition held last month. We would   like all our members to come along with their families and enjoy the evening.
This will be the last and final month for renewal or admission of new members. Old members who have not yet renewed can do it on 20’Th of April.
Dinner will be served; confirmation is required.

1.Members who have children below 6years of age can register for fashion parade.Parents walk the ramp along with yourchild and here is an opportunity for your child to perform. Performance can be two minutes of singing, dancing, poem, recitation or even acting.

MAY

Cooking competition was organized in the month of May. The members were asked to prepare food using the main ingredient as rice. The competition was spilt into three categories viz:-snacks, main course and desserts. Many of our members took part in the competition. One could see the variety of food displayed which goes to show how talented our members are. Each categoryhad around 15 entries. The judges had a tough time to choose the two winners as each dish was taster than the other. The judges for the competition were the main chef of India Club and the Manager in charge.
As the competition was being judged the members and their family were immersed in Mrs.Shyamala Pon Illango speech. Mrs.Shyamala Pon Illango from Inner Universe was explaining the Whole brain concept and its application for improvement of communication, memory, relationship, problem-solving ability, etc. After the speech Mrs Shyamala had an interaction section with the families. By this time the winners of the competition were chosen.
The winners of the cooking competition are:-

Main Course--1’st-Jayashri Ramesh, 2’nd-Chandra Ramaswamy,

Dessert-- 1’st-Usha Krishnan, 2’nd-Padmini Anand.

Prizes sponsored by Kitchen Home were given away.

As always the programme ended with delicious dinner.


NAVARATHRI CELEBRATIONS 2006 (September)

Colourful dolls , sparkling lights and mouth watering delites mark the occasion of Navarathi. TLA invited one and all to be a part of

this very celebration on

Navarathri TLA celebrated its Navarathri on 16’Th of September, at the India Club. The hall was decorated as per the mood of the festival. The traditional Gollu was set-up, wherein in one could feel as if they were in India. The members and their families startedarriving around 6.30p.m. The committee welcomed them in the traditional way by giving the kumkum, fresh flowers and the Navarathri gift.Children were given away ‘Complan’,sponsored by Mrs.Asha Ananthkrisnan. The programme started with the Presidents welcome speech followed by the entertainment secretary taking over. The programme for Navarathri was a musical evening. The music session started with a group of children singing followed by adults. In all 15 children and 15 adults sang and entertained the crowd for the evening. The songs were basically semi-classical songs.After the music Mr.Venkat entertained the crowd with jokes.He also spoke about the way Navarathri was celebrated in olden days and it being celebrated now in Dubai. The evening ended with everyoneenjoying food served by the club. The gifts were sponsored by Nalli’s and Mrs. Prema


DEEPAVALI  KONDATTAM  (November)
Tamil Ladies Association (TLA)-Deepavali Get-together.
Tamil Ladies Association organised a grand and colorful DEEPAVALI.

Deepavali is an occasion for every one to come together and enjoy.
·Tamil Ladies Association (TLA) had its Deepavali celebration on 3’rd November 2006 at Regent Palace Hotel. It was a great get-together for the members and their family. The members and their families started arriving around 10.30a.m.The committee welcomed the members with the Deepaavali gift. All of them were dressed for the occasion. One could witness the variety of saris available. The men not to be left behind wore colorful kurthas, and the little ones too were in their best of their outfits.
The programme started with the President’s welcome speech. The D.J then took over; he had games for the kids,
There was a clown who kept the children occupied throughout the programme. There were games for the ladies and their husbands also.The ladies were asked to walk the ramp and the best three were given away prizes. The men were asked to belly dance and thebest five were given prizes. Prizes were sponsored by Mr.Venkat of Kuwait Airways and Mr. Shankar.
In between the games the association also had a music competition, A Tamil or Hindi karaoke competition. This competition was sponsored by Media-com. The competition had three categories viz:-children, teenager and adults. Three judges chose two winners from each category.The winners are

Children -- 1’st –Reethi Narayanan 2’nd- Vidhyasagar Sankar
Teenagers—1’st-Rakhee Krishnan 2’nd-Mahesh Ragavan
Adults-- 1’st-Madhu Viswanath 2’nd Brinda Subramanian.
Prizes were given away by Media-com.


The President announced the next months programme ”NRITYOTSAV” .Nrityotsav is a dance competition that will take place on 22’nd of December 2006 at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium. This dance competition is being organized by TLA .Its an all emirates group dance competition, where in all the South Indian Association will take part. It will be a full day event and the competition will be judged by a South Indian Cine star.
Around 1.30p.m delicious lunch was served. The celebration was concluded in a grand manner, as everyone danced away to the numbers played by the DJ. All the members were given a kg of ponni boiled rice sponsored by Royal Chef as they left the party hall.
Tamil Ladies Association a thirty-year-old association in Dubai has been organizing various cultural programmes
showcasing the talent of the members and their family. The association has also been widely performing on various
other events all over the U.A.E.
A non-profitable organization, TLA has been known for its innovative shows, not only encouraging the children
but also their parents. TLA is stepping over a new stone by organizing ‘NRITYOTSAV’; an All Emirate dance competition.
Celebration and Festival is known to all cultures, portraying their ethical traditions. Nrityotsav celebrates the culture of Dance. It is an attempt to showcase the different dance forms of India instilling the spirit of healthy competition among the performers.
We consider Nrityotsav as a centre point of association for the people from different organizations in the U.A.E.
We propose to have a full day event on the 22nd December 2006 at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Dubai.
We propose to have prominent artist to judge the competition and are in process of finalizing a cine star from India.

Details of the competition:-

Categories --- Eastern Group Dance
Group should consist minimum of 10 participants and can have up to 16 participants.
Age Limit--- Junior category 8years to 13 years

Senior category 14 years to 20 years.
Time limit--- 8 minutes.Theme – Celebration.



DECEMBER  ( Nrityotsav)


 This dance competition  organized by TLA .Its an all emirates group dance competition, where in all the South Indian Association took       part. It was a full day event and the competition was judged by a South Indian Cine star.
