Solidarity with the Pitstop Ploughshares:
Damien Moran, Ciaron O'Reilly, Deirdre Clancy, Karen Fallon, and Nuin Dunlop are currently on bail, facing 10 years imprisonment if convicted for their nonviolent disarmament of a US Navy warplane at Shannon Airport on February 3rd, 2003.
Shannon Airport has become a key pitstop for the US war machine in their invasion, occupation, and plunder of Iraq and Afghanistan.
You are invited to show solidarity with the Pitstop Ploughshares as they continue their nonviolent journey through the Irish courts. The defendants will next appear at the Circuit Criminal Court in Dublin's Four Courts, on the morning of 24 October 2005.
Their trial date comes two and a half years after they prevented a US Navy war plane from assisting the theatre of war in Iraq. The ploughshares community invite you to participate in a two week celebration of hope and nonviolent resistance during the trial period.
There will be public meetings with well-known international peace activists and music from renowned Irish bands/singers in the lead up and throughout the trial. If you are interested in finding out more about the Pitstop Ploughshares community and would like to help in some way, please visit their website (below):
Peace Vigil at GPODublin Catholic Worker will continue to vigil every Monday from 4-6pm at the GPO in Dublin City Centre.
Each Monday we vigil in solemn remembrance of the victims of war and poverty throughout the world. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters resisting the destructive policies of powerful governments/corporations throughout the world, who continue to carve up the spoils of war, unleashing carnage to the detriment of the poorest and weakest.
We pray especially that all Christian churches will take a clear stance against war, which is the basis of creating and sustaining poverty and suffering throughout our world.
The Irish government has permitted 450,000 US troops to pass through Shannon Airport in the past three and a half years. An average of 25,000 US soldiers with various munitions of war pass through Shannon on a monthly basis, en route to the invasion, occupation & plunder of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.
