from: Eagle Tribune North Andover Native will play goal for Boston Thursday, May 25, 2000 Tracy Noonan Ducar is coming home. The new Women's Professional Soccer Association announced yesterday that Ducar, a goalkeeper on the 1999 U.S. World Cup team, will play for Boston when the league begins in April 2001. Ducar is a former North Andover High goalie. WUSA allocated three current and/or former U.S. National Team members to each of the eight teams. All 20 members of the World Cup championship squad signed with WUSA. Major League Soccer, which had planned to launch a rival women's league, announced Tuesday that it has dropped its proposal and will work with WUSA to promote the sport. Midfielder Kristine Lilly, the only American man or woman to play 200 matches for the national team, and defender Kate Sobrero also were allocated to Boston. Mia Hamm, the US team's biggest star, will play in Washington, D.C. |
