Alison did not know when she fell in love with Sam, but after she saved him, they got to know each other better. Sam liked her too.
When he told her he loved her, she was beyond words, but her best friend, Isabelle, also had a crush for Sam. Knowing that Izzy was dying, she asked Sam to take Izzy out and spend time with her. Although she felt that she was doing the right thing, she felt jealous too. Sam even told Alison that he was starting to have feelings for Izzy even though he still loved her.
After Izzy's death, her mother passed an envelope to Alison. There was a map of France and a note saying "you and Sam will need this. Thanks for sharing. I love you. Iz" Izzy knew that both Sam and Alison were in love.
Now, the both were back together, watching the turtles crawl out of their shells like Izzy used to watch them with her.
