. . . Always Thought . . .

This is mainly a page for relevent character information quotes from the book that I drew upon to make up the character herself. I had to add a lot to make her more playable, obviously, but the stuff on this page make up the basis for her background, appearance and personality. Quotes are in Italic.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban -

Chapter 13: Gryffindor Vs Ravenclaw

"Harry, I've just found out who Ravenclaw is playing as Seeker. It's Cho Chang. She's a fourth year, and she's pretty good.... I really hoped she wouldn't be fit, she's had some problems with injuries...." Wood scowled his displeasure that Cho Chang had made a full recovery, then said, "On the other hand, she rides a Comet Two Sixty, which is going to look like a joke next to the Firebolt."

The important things I took from this are the fact that A) she's good, and B) has a problem with injuries, as well as C) has a Comet Two Sixty, which really does look like a joke next to his Firebolt.

They walked out onto the field to tumultuous applause. The Ravenclaw team, dressed in blue, were already standing in the middle of the field. Their Seeker, Cho Chang, was the only girl on their team. She was shorter than Harry by about a head, and Harry couldn't help noticing, nervous as he was, that she was extremely pretty. She smiled at Harry as the teams faced each other behind their captains, and he felt a slight lurch in the region of his stomach that he didn't think had anything to do with nerves.

A) Short. Since Harry is supposed to be fairly small for a boy, to be a head shorter she's at least 5 feet, if not less. I made her 5 feet exactly, so she's not too small, but I probably should have made her a bit shorter. B) Extremely pretty. No arguement there!

Harry streaked past Katie in the opposite direction, gazing around for a glint of gold and noticing that Cho Chang was tailing him closely. She was undoubtedly a very good flier -- she kept cutting across him, forcing him to change direction.

A) Good flier, B) uses a diversionary tactic of flight, flanks her opponent.

Chapter Fifteen: The Quidditch Final

"Good luck, Harry!" called Cho. Harry felt himself blushing.

Okay, admitedly this is a lousey insert, but I think it shows that she had no hard feelings about being beaten. Besides, she's a minor character, I have to use every mention I can. x_x

Chapter Seven: Bagman and Crouch

. . . a little farther on they saw Cho Chang, a very pretty girl who played Seeker on the Ravenclaw team. She waved and smiled at Harry, who slopped quite a lot of water down his front as he waved back.

Again, admitedly rather lame, but the fact that she obviously waved first helps support that she's extroverted and friendly. And since she was in this scene it showed that she went to the World Cup Quidditch Match. Not surprising, as she's a Quidditch player herself.

Chapter Nineteen: The Hungarian Horntail

"Want a hanky, Potter, in case you start crying in Transfiguration?"
"Since when have you been one of the top students in the school, Potter? Or is this a school you and Longbottom have set up together?"
"Hey - Harry!"
"Yeah, that's right!" Harry found himself shouting as he wheeled around in the corridor, having had just about enough. "I've just been crying my eyes out over my dead mum, and I'm just off to do a bit more. . ."
"No - it was just - you dropped your quill."
It was Cho. Harry felt the color rising in his face.
"Oh - right - sorry," he muttered, taking the quill back.
"Er. . . good luck on Tuesday," she said. "I really hope you do well."
Which left Harry feeling extremely stupid.

Again, lame, but hey, she cheered him on, she didn't make fun of him about Rita Skeeter's article and she gave him back his quill! . . . Well, I think it's important, damnit. >_<

Right over by the door he saw Cho and a large group of her Ravenclaw friends. She wasn't wearing a Cedric badge though. . . . This cheered up Harry very slightly.

A) Popular, B) Didn't cheer against him, unlike so many other people.

Chapter Twenty-Two: The Unexpected Task

"Er - Cho? Could I have a word with you?"
Giggling should be made illegal. Harry thought furiously, as all the girls around Cho started doing it. She didn't, though. She said, "Okay," and followed him out of earshot other classmates.
Harry turned to look at her and his stomach gave a weird lurch as though he had missed a step going downstairs.
"Er," he said.
He couldn't ask her. He couldn't. But he had to. Cho stood there looking puzzled, watching him. The words came out before Harry had quite got his tongue around them. "Wangoballwime?"
"Sorry?" said Cho.
"D'you - d'you want to go to the ball with me?" said Harry. Why did he have to go red now? Why?
"Oh!" said Cho, and she went red too. "Oh Harry, I'm really sorry," and she truly looked it. "I've already said I'll go with someone else."
"Oh," said Harry.
It was odd; a moment before his insides had been writhing like snakes, but suddenly he didn't seem to have any insides at all.
"Oh okay," he said, "no problem."
"I'm really sorry," she said again.
"That's okay," said Harry.
They stood there looking at each other, and then Cho said, "Well-"
"Yeah," said Harry.
"Well, 'bye," said Cho, still very red. She walked away.
Harry called after her, before he could stop himself. "Who're you going with?"
"Oh - Cedric," she said. "Cedric Diggory."
"Oh right," said Harry.

This is probably the biggest scene she's in, besides the Quidditch match in the 3rd Book, but there's an obvious reason for it. She's Harry's crush, and this was his first real attempt to do anything about it. Anyway, I rather like this scene. For one it shows that she was really sorry when she had to say no to him. And also because it shows that she can be embarassed, just like anyone else. And also this introduced the impending relationship between her and Cedric (though I think it was a puppy-love relationship more than anything else -- Hey, even I felt a puppy-love attactment to ol' Cedric).

Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Beginning

Harry caught a glimpse of Cho through the crowd. There were tears pouring silently down her face.

This was pretty much when I decided I had to app Cho (for anyone who doesn't know the story, I had quite literally finished the 4th book the day before I sent the application, and I had only started reading them a week before that). The above conveys my response to what happened and I could completely sympathize with her.
