INT. CARTER MANSION
Carter enters through the front door. The housekeeper is there to greet him. She is a little tearful, and glad to see him.
HOUSEKEEPER: Dr. Carter.
CARTER: It’s okay.
HOUSEKEEPER: Where’s your father?
CARTER: He took a later flight. He’s going to be landing in a couple hours. Did my mother call?
During that last line, Carter pulled off his overcoat, and now the housekeeper takes it from him.
HOUSEKEEPER: No. Sorry. Dr. Emerson was here earlier. He sais you can phone him at home tonight, if you’d like. And Mr. Garrit called from the funeral home. He apologized for the delay.
CARTER: (surprised) They didn’t come yet?
HOUSEKEEPER: He should be here any minute.
Carter now casts a glance up there stairs, knowing the body’s still there.
HOUSEKEEPER: Can I get you something to eat?
CARTER: No, thanks.
HOUSEKEEPER: Tea, perhaps?
CARTER: No, I’m fine, thanks.
He starts up the stairs.
HOUSEKEEPER: Dr. Carter...
He turns to look at her.
HOUSEKEEPER: She was a wonderful woman.
CARTER: (smiles) Yes she was.
He pauses a moment, then heads upstairs.
