INT. MOTEL ROOM
Your standard motel-fare. Two beds. The door to the bathroom is closed. Abby's on the phone. I can't decide if there are enough "phone pauses" to tell if she's actually talking to Carter, or just the voicemail.
ABBY: (into phone) Hey, John, it's me. Um, I'm at a motel room at the airport because we missed our plane... and I'm sorry. But I'm trying to get us on the first plane out tomorrow, and I'll try to call you later. Bye.
She hangs up the phone. Eric comes out of the bathroom. He's changed his clothes, and looks like he's washed up (maybe he trimmed the beard, though, I can't decide).
ERIC: Better?
ABBY: Better.
ERIC: Thanks for the clothes.
ABBY: You can thank Carter. They're his.
She holds out a glass of water and a pill to him.
ABBY: He also sent this.
ERIC: (takes it from her) What is it?
ABBY: Depakote.
ERIC: (studies pill) This is my life now, isn't it?
ABBY: It's up to you.
He puts the pill in his mouth, gulps back some water, and swallows. She pulls back the blankets on his bed for him.
ABBY: (not melodramatically) We all thought you were dead, you know. Except for Mom, of course. she refused to believe it.
ERIC: She know you were coming?
ABBY: Couldn't get in touch with her. For all I know, she's missing too.
Eric laughs a little, and flops onto the bed as Abby finishes there.
ABBY: It's not funny.
ERIC: I know. (then) It's a little funny.
Abby goes to her bag which is sitting on her bed and digs through it.
ERIC: So what happens now?
ABBY: (without turning to look at him) We go home.
ERIC: Well, what about me? I don't want to live like this. Can't keep doing this to you! [Closed-captioned but not spoken: "To me..."]
ABBY: You have to get into a program.
ERIC: Will you help me?
ABBY: Don't I always?
She turns to look at him, having retrieved her toothbrush from her bag. He's fast asleep. She sits down on the edge of his bed, brooding.
