Checkpoint 4
  Dickson's Hardware in Harvard Sq.

We ended up on the #1 bus with about 5 other teams, we were the only ones who knew where the clue was.  We ran like a mother to get here.  I have no idea what we are making faces about.  Jon looks like he just witnessed someone get run over.

Checkpoint 5
Week's Bridge on the Charles... Speed Limit 6mph.

It took 2 bridges and a lot of running but we found the right one and the right side.  While running toward the bridge we were passed by a couple of jackasses from Chicago who felt the need to tell us that they are just doing this one for kicks as they had already qualified for the nationals in Vegas two weeks ago.  WHO CARES!  Check the matching outfits...we are so dorky.

Checkpoint 6
This "kingfisher" bird rests atop some monument in Charlestown.

After taking the T and running across some bridge, we ended up finding this gem of a statue.  I believe some people took a picture of the wrong part of the statue.  But, not us!

Checkpoint 7
WE FOUND THE SKIP GIRL!

Because we found the Skip Girl in the North End, we were allowed to "Skip" one Checkpoint.  We initially took a pic of a place called MERCUCCIO'S (the character from the play Romeo & Juliet)  We later discovered that there was a hair/nail salon like 4 doors down called ROMEO & JULIET'S.  It seems that we didn't read carefully and thought the Checkpoint was named after the character who said the quote, not the play.  So, realizing our error, we used the Skip Girl.

Checkpoint 8
The James Hook Company is home to this Copper Lobster on Rowe's Wharf.

We ran/walked from The North End along the Big Dig to Rowe's Wharf not having any clue what this Checkpoint could be.  Stopping to ask some Trolley tour guides, we were informed of The James Hook Co. and the large Lobster atop the building a few blocks down.  When we arrived there were already 4 teams there posing for picks with the big fella atop the roof.  Right before our turn a team took off on the left side of the building.  We followed them in to discover that the correct lobster was inside.  Inside=COPPER, Outside=BRASS.  Tricky Tricky Tricky.   ~Notice Jon's shirt is see-through and his nipples are showing.  We were hot and and having a blast.

Checkpoint 9
Union Oyster House near Fanuel Hall.

Moments before running into some lovely lesbians with whom we traveled with for a while thereafter, I was on the horn to Bull & Finch (Cheers) to find out when they were established.  The girl on the phone was not pleased with my inquiries.  But, luckily the lesbians led us to this winner.

Checkpoint 10
Quinn was the correct answer...this is Sumner.

Apparently there are like 4000 people memorialized in the Public Garden who attended Boston Latin and were from Charlestown.  This QUINN guy is the one who DIED for his country.  Sumner obviously was a nobody.

Checkpoint 11
  1362 (up Beacon Hill)

Before finding this we ran into our friends from the Week's bridge.  I couldnt tell you their names, so they will be called The Suze's.  The Suze's had more jersey numbers than the unsporty gay couple pictured here.  So we kinda relied on them to figure out the equation.  So, we sprint from the Public Garden and into Beacon Hill to find Louisburg Sq.   Now, these red emergency poles are throughout and it just took some running up streets to find the one that had "1362" on the front of it.  Not to mention that here we ran into our nemesis group from Chicago...we hate them.

Checkpoint 12
The MDC Boathouse on the Esplanade.

There are those 2 jackasses from Chicago behind us... and PS- they didn't get a medal, nor did they qualify again for Vegas.  Bastards.  Could this clue have been more vague?  Jon figured it out though and this stupid Chicago group followed us.

Checkpoint 1
THE DEVIL'S CHECKPOINT
At the other end of the Esplanade facing West.

WOW, who would think of just running a mile down the Esplanade to find this clue?  Not us!  We looked around the Hatchshell...no green benches.  Ponder.  Hey, lets run to Copley Sq. to check around the fountains.  No green benches.  TO THE PUBLIC GARDEN!  The pond with no green benches.  BACK TO THE ESPLANADE to seek other teams for hints.  We pass one team who tells me to head back to Long Wharf, hopefully they got hit by a bus.  There was no way the clue was there.  So we just look for more teams.  Finally we spot 2 teams sprinting down toward the Mass Ave. bridge.  Following them we find the damn "chesslike" Checkpoint.  Now you had to figure out how to play Chess... Thanks Cliff for the tips.

Checkpoint 2
On the Comm. Ave. mall at the corner of Fairfield.

No story really, we had already passed it 14 times that day looking for the previous Checkpoint.

Checkpoint 3
THE END...

About 3 blocks from our house is this Malaysian treat (or not).  Now we just have to run back to Jillian's before 2pm.  At this point it's 1:45pm.

We finished the Urban Challenge in 4:50:20.  We left 21minutes after the 1st group and probably 10 before the last group.  WE PLACED 52nd!  Damn good considering we thought we were almost last!  We took 1 bus ride and 1 subway ride.  A total of 10 miles on FOOT...HELLO!
