Jon and I found out about this scavenger hunt/race across Boston in the Boston Phoenix last weekend. Being a psychotic fan of CBS's The Amazing Race, I pushed for us to do it! I would kill most everyone I know to be on that show, so this seemed like a more healthy way to pursue that dream. I mean, come on... who doesn't want to run around town like a maniac, with a digital camera in one hand, a cellphone in the other and a mob of people chasing after them? The premise? Urban Challenge is a 21 city event that culminates in a National Championship in Las Vegas for a chance at $50,000. Figure out clues and trivia to find 12 checkpoints throughout the greater Boston area. Your only means of transportation are bus, subway and your good ole feet! Use a digital camera to document each checkpoint in order and return to headquarters. The Top 10 teams from each city are qualified for the Nationals. Top
prize in each city is all expense paid trip to Vegas and entrance to the
event. Why the hell not? Jon and I thought it would be nothing but a riot. A test of intelligence, endurance and trust... The game begins with a trivia challenge from hell. Who the hell knows what the symbol for good luck (crossing your fingers) stemmed from? Apparently more than us. After 30 questions, we discover that we suck and will leave in the 8th group (out of 13 total). 21 minutes after Group 1, we embark on our challenge. According to our Passport, we start with Checkpoint 4 and must work sequentially until Checkpoint 3 then return to headquarters. THINK ON THE RUN, who knew that would be so hard?
