Rock Im Park 1,2,3 June 2001, Nurnberg Germany By Jenny Moss and Mike Fransted of Dude News, Mannheim Germany Nurnberg’s Rock Im Park would have been perfect if it wouldn’t have been for the weather. We had sunny weather for three weeks but a German Rockfest can not be complete unless it rains. The good part was the alternative hall was indoor. Fridays Headliners had good weather with Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, 3 Doors Down and others rocking hard on the the Main stage. Just really enough to hit you good for the Saturday’s indoors attractions, Godsmack, H-Blokx, Papa Roach and the brilliance of Tool (you can’t tell I’m a fan, can you?) From a Rock Fest fan perspective I’ll give you what you really want to know. One of the best organized festivals I have ever been to! Location: Main stage: the football stadium of 1st FC Nürnberg; Alterna”tent”: ice hockey stadium of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers; Talent Forum: a smaller ice hockey stadium. Great camping area, lakes, plenty of bathrooms. No long walks. 15 minute max. to get from your tent to the concert grounds. Easy to get there, right off the autobahn. Huge lanes, no traffic jams. Food: They had one kickin’ coffee and donuts stand, and pizza that was cooked all the way! Activities: Base Jumping, Bungee Jumping, giant trampoline with all kind of freaking things going on. Cops: cool, no real hassles unless you where being an absolute shithead. Weather: sucked Friday: The football stadium was filled from the first band on. OPM pleased all of the girls that had come to see them and after their show they even gave some autographes to the fans. 3 Doors Down seem to have finnally made a breaktrough in Germany. Thousands of fans sung alond to their hits and enjoyed the show. Linkin Park had a remarkable show with Fred Durst watching from the side of the stage. They rocked the stadium and had a powerful stage appearance. Even though they have only been around for a very short time the crowed went wild. Kid Rock - poser rock deluxe. He entered the stage in the most dramatic way a rock star can enter. He was brought up with an elevator greeting everyone with streched out arms in his white fake (?) fur coat; pimp suit. Of course the two gogo girls on each side of the stage were a must! The show was packed with all kinds of effects and goodies ( a huge inflatable middle finger…) and the whole stadium was cheering. There was even a sad moment in the performance when a sample of the late little dude made Kid Rock shed some tears. Limp Bizkit played the crowed. The arena was a single red cap. Wes Boland came on stage painted completely black and he gave a stunning performance singing and playing “Master of Puppets” by Metallica in a way that should scare James Hetfield! Limp Bizkit pulled one fan after the other up on stage. The first lucky fan was a girl that couldn’t stop dancing. The second one was a tiny Fred, who danced with his idol. Fred Durst got into the crowed and performed a song between his fans. While Fred was in the crowd a little mascot from chocolate starfish and… took his place on stage and danced around. Of course the Fredinas weren’t missing during the performance of “Rollin”. Limp Bizkit are capable of creating mass hystery! Slipknot cancelled their gig that night and left hundreds of angry fans in front of the stage who then watched the Linkin Park who filled in for them. The fans were mad, unfair and through all kinds of things on stage. That made Linkin Park mad who regretted that Slipknot were not able to be there that night because they are fans themselves. Linkin Park performing mad and upset is a lot better then Linkin Park performing happy. I think they gave the show of their lives. The singers head was ready to explode and I am positive that even the angry Slipknot fans have started to like those guys Saturday Highlights Godsmack found a home across the pond with an overwhelming amount of Americans in the crowd from local army bases. Chants of U..S..A unsettled the almost dead German crowd. Lead screamer Sully Erna put it to them anyway and finally awoke the crowd with harder ever version of “Awake”, “Keep Away” and “Get Up, and Get Out!!” Tool, I’ve waited so long to see them and I was amazed. A full stir of visual and music expression. In 90 min Tool was only able to fit 8 of there best into a set but in was done only in a way that they could be satisfied and it showed. With most of the visuals stemming from they’re videos it gave a the audience a change to see the band that has only performed in 1 video that was hard to come by until the release of the current DVD “Salivate”. … Sunday was Talent Forum day. Zombie Joe, a German newcomer band started the day with a very odd but very good show. Their first albulm (Sukkubus) will be out soon and I think it will be worth buying. The Union Underground was so good that all their t-shirts were sold out directly after their show. Sona Fariq managed to get the tiering crowed moving. The energy of the singer was hard to ignore. The show ended with a stage dive of the singer who then nearly got kicked out from the security when he tried to get backstage. I mean they only played for about 45 minutes…. Wayne Static and the X came on next. Cheers of Wayne-Wayne went through the crowd and almost too many people were crowd surfing . Static X defently managed to heat up the hall! Amen rolled in with a wave of violence and did a good job at pissing off the crowd calling nazi heritage sacred ground. The crowd took revenge on each other and started a very big, very hard mosh pit. Mudvayne sadly cancelled their show that night because they filled in for Slipknot at the Rock am Ring. H- Blokx filled in for Mudvayne. |
