SLOW HORSE - Slow Horse (II)
Berserker Records (USA) 2001
The second release of this NYC band has no title
again, just like their debut mini from 1999. This is
one for the Doomsters out there. But we'd be willing
to bet that even if you hate Doom, you will love this
record. At times, it is as heavy as a brick sandwich,
and at others soft as a dark whisper from the boss
downstairs. Think indie minimalists LOW wrasslin' with
the OBSESSED in a Moroccan opium den, and you'll get a
pretty good idea of what's going on here. Some more
name dropping: Black Sabbath, Codeine, Goatsnake, The
Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Swans; you get the message
by now. I played it 3 times front to back in a row,
and that hardly ever happens...

"Three Way EP"
Freebid Records (NL) 2001
Three bands, from Canada, Sweden and Italy, filling
one album released in The Netherlands. To me, it's
more that just 3 EPs combined. The combination of
these different bands (Nice*Cat on the sludge punk
side of groove rock, The Volcanic with a more melodic
desert rock approach and finally The StoneGod who fill
the gap between stoner and symphonic rock) shows some
of the fringes of heavy groove riif-rock. And it's
always better to release 4 songs that are really good,
than an individual album that has some fillers...

BURNOUT "Thundertits"
12th Planet Music (CDN) 2001
If you like your stoner type rock on the heavy and
sludge side, this one is just your kind of filth. A
stoner stampede without any compromise. Reminds me a
bit of Roadsaw, Sixty Watt Shaman or Horsy. Pedal to
the metal, cranking up the volume to 11 and GO!

Well, more work for you... hehehe
