While Munich public transport is in general very good, the S-Bahn (suburban rail) system is notoriously poorly managed and unreliable. The city says the state should pay to improve it, the state says the federal government should pay, and the federal government says either the city or the state should pay. Meanwhile the people who depend on the S-Bahn are caught in the middle.
20 Sept 2000 - 80 minute delay of nearly every train on the main line with NO explanation or apology from the S-Bahn. 10,000 commuters late for work because of the S-Bahn - AGAIN.
