Thursday 16th December 1999 was when TJ was first brought to our screens although I discovered the cam one night in February 2000. At the first sight of him I was hooked and became a nightly watcher of the site.
The rains in February that year were very heavy so shooting for a long spell was not possible. Kim and crew put up a spectacular slideshow from slides that had been taken at Etosha and Dale and Richard kept the slideshow running for us through the night. To me, this showed their dedication and commitment to us and, it surely kept us interested and anxious to see the end of the rain and the shooting commence.
For the rest of the year, the first thing I did every morning was to check the message board to be sure I hadn't missed anything the night before. In the afternoon and for much of the evening, I sat at my screen and waited for Tjololo to make his appearance. There were very few times that I was not rewarded, even if it was only a shot of him walking away and leading the crew as they followed....it was Africa in my home. |
