Dream

Strip away the tainted outer shroud
Not afraid but also not so proud
Be content to float within confusion

Calculated course sends you astray
What was true before is not today
Can't quite swim, at least you're not dragged down

Your precious compass
Only weighs you down
And all resistance
Will only make you drown

Then the sunflowers turn away
Lonely night greets lonely day
And the darkened sky describes illusion

While the blackened city hums
Through the window my mind numbs
Through the music answers may be found

Ancient astrolabes
Need not apply
You won't get answers
From the silent sky

Through the window feel my soul
Through the window hear the hole
Fill with song or ancient incantations

Rinse my heart and then repeat
Feel its every pulsing beat
Then you'll find a course which you can swim

I wrote this song in my first term at UBC, quite literally. I believe I wrote it in my CPSC 124 and PHYS 101 lectures. Dealing with minor depression at the time, I laced it with more than a hint of optimism over pulsating, repetitive, dreamy chords. A bit of an acid trip, without the acid.
