Natural Highs

Look up to the sky
Watch the clouds go by
Wonder where they go
Never really know

Lie all night on a hilltop
Staring at a star
Know I'll never get so high
Never go so far

Raise my head up high
Trying to learn to fly
List'ning to the birds
Trying to hear their words

I don't need no dealer's drugs
No supernatural highs
When I'm feeling down and out
The world gets me by

Sitting all alone
Why will no one phone?
Happy by myself
Feelings on the shelf

Wonder where you are tonight
Wonder who you'll be
Staring at a star all night
Maybe I will see
I am all alone for now
Maybe that's okay
Sun will soon begin to rise
For another day
I am all alone for now but
It'll be okay
Cuz the sun's begun to rise
For another day

Back in high-school, marijuana seemed a very prominent aspect of many of my fellow students' lives. This particular day found me in a very mellow mood and still adamantly opposed to drug use in general. Slowly slurred vocals over just two droning, simple chords give this song the feeling of being drug out, if not drugged out. The ending shows a common theme in many of my songs, the endless search for love.
