Sunflowers for Jonathan
-
Jonathan lived a lonely life, Always searching for a friend.
People wouldn't take the time, And they wouldn't take him in.
-
Nobody brought sunflowers for Jonathan,
Nobody brought sunflowers for him.
And he never, never knew of love,
Cuz nobody ever cared for him.
-
Jonathan lived his life in darkness, Always searching for the sun.
Never asked for any favours, Never bothered anyone.
-
But nobody brought sunflowers for Jonathan,
Nobody brought sunflowers for him.
And he never, never knew of love,
Cuz nobody ever cared for him.
The pain would never wash away,
The pain would never wash away.
-
Jonathan lay down his weary head, Lay down lay down lay down in tears.
Waited for no tomorrow, Lay down lay down till he was dead.
-
But nobody brought sunflowers for Jonathan,
To be placed upon his grave.
People wouldn't, wouldn't take the time,
To remember Jonathan.
With sunflowers, for Jonathan.
Sunflowers, for Jonathan.
-
One of my favourite songs to date, you might notice a theme somewhat borrowed from Pearl Jam's Jeremy. But the title came first. There was a photograph featured in the Vancouver Sun newspaper which showed a vase with sunflowers sitting on a piece of paper where some young child had drawn in crayon what appears to be a mirror-image of the same vase and flowers. Scrawled out on the paper sheet were the words "Sunflowers for Jonathan".
