V12-Hotrod Construction Rules
- Cars to be 1/12th scale Mardave V12 series chassis with any commercially available bodyshell.
- Any make of servo saver may be used on the steering servo.
- Any make of track rod or ends may be used.
- The tyres may be changed from the original kit tyres.
- ABS bodyshells are allowed, windows may be cut out if not they must be clearly defined. Polycarbonate bodyshells are allowed, windows must remain clear, not tinted or maybe cut out.
- Ballraces allowed on rear axle only. Rear axle and spur gear must remain as kit.
- Chassis and front and rear wheel carriers and suspension springs to be as kit. Countersunk screws must not be used on the underside of chassis.
- Any commercially available speed controller may be used, must have reverse fitted and working. Mechanical to have a maximum retail price of £30-00, Electronic £60-00. Receiver battery packs are allowed.
- Only nine extra holes (max. 3mm) may be drilled in the chassis, two holes must be used for mounting the steering servo, two holes to be used for mounting an on/off switch, and one hole to mount the aerial tube, and a max of four holes for alternative battery mounting, if any of these items are not used, then the holes must not be drilled. Any holes drilled and not used must be filled. Chassis top mounting plate may be changed, altered or removed.
- The motor may be fitted to either side of the chassis, providing that there is no modification or alteration to the chassis or mounting blocks.
- External front and rear bumpers are not allowed.
- Min 20mm. Max 26mm width of tyres and min 48mm Max 60mm diameter of tyres. Any foam tyre compound allowed
- Cars to use four cells only, cells to be sub-C sized cells only, with a nominal voltage of 1.2 volts per cell. Cells must be readily identifiable. Battery mountings may be changed from the original.
- Motors to be Graupner RS540PH/Irvine Topaz RS540/Mardave V14 or Mabuchi RS540SH and must have metal end bells and remain unopened.
- Steel whip aerials and rollover masts are not allowed, and aerials must remain inside the bodyshell.
- At BRCA events drivers name and BRCA number must be clearly displayed at the top of the front windscreen, not less than 5mm high.
- At BRCA events the drivers roof grade colour (if known) must be on the roof of the car either painted or using tape to cover a minimum area 50 sq.mm.
- When initially entered at a meeting the bodyshell must be neatly presented and complete.
- Body and chassis must be securely joined at all times the car is on the track. No wings or aerofoils unless supplied by manufacturer with the bodyshell. No underbody aids are allowed.
- Alternative motor pinions may be used, providing no alteration is made to the motor mounting blocks. Motor fluid and additives are allowed. No tyre additives of any type allowed.
- If you intend to alter your car in any way that is not covered by the above, you must check with the Hotrod scrutineer, for approval. We expect all drivers to use common sense when modifying cars and to enter into the spirit of the sport.
V12-Hotrod Racing Rules (NON-CONTACT FORMULA)
- All National and Open meetings will be arranged by the event organiser with pre entry forms. Entry forms to be generally available at least one calendar month prior to the meeting. Money will be paid on return of entry form. Entry fee to be £4.00 per junior and £5.00 per adult. A levy of £2.00 per meeting per person will also apply. This levy to be paid to BRCA 1/12th oval section by the promoting club. BRCA membership cards must be shown during booking in procedure. It is advised that any club holding a BRCA sanctioned event should provide an agenda of the meeting included with the entry form. This agenda to cover such items as: -
a) Venue, dates, and approximate times of practice, heats and finish.
b) Contact names, addresses and phone numbers.
c)Classes and costs.
d)Closing date for entries.
e)Any special requirements of the venue: - PowerPoint, lead acid batteries etc.
f)Details of any refreshments available.
g)Any other relevant information.
- National venues to have a minimum of six power points available for competitors use.
- A sanctioned event must have the following officials: -
Race Director: - who must be present throughout the meeting.
Chief Scrutineer: - who will ensure that all cars meet the requirements of the rules.
BRCA Steward: - who has absolute authority at race meetings and is responsible for interpretations of the rules.
- Health and Safety. --------These rules are mandatory and the meeting may not proceed until the BRCA steward is satisfied that these have been observed.
a)A first aid kit is to be made available for self-administration. This is to be held in the scrutineering area.
b)Fire extinguishers should be available at all venues.
- All open and national meetings shall be run on carpet. No additives allowed. All open and national meetings will have A to Z finals. Race format to be 4 qualifying heats and finals to be of 5 minute duration, except in the case of a large entry when races may be reduced to 4 minutes duration. Heats to be shuffled each round
- Finals will start in qualifying order. The race format is eight cars in the final Minimum five, maximum nine cars in any one race. This applies at organizational stage only. In the event of a tie at any national meeting, it will be decided on a drivers previous lap scores, including split times, starting with the highest then the next highest etc.

- Only the driver involved may be allowed to question their lap scores. A parent or guardian can represent any junior member.
- At all national meetings the cars will be checked by the BRCA official scrutineer or deputy, prior to racing and as required.
- A suitable audible signal will start each race.
- Minimum track width is 1 metre.
- Start lines must be clearly visible.
- Drivers to marshall races as instructed, failure to comply will result in loss of last race result.
- Code of conduct: - Any committee member can bring to the drivers attention, any misconduct by them or their pit crew and may penalize the offending driver at the discretion of the committee. Drivers or pit crew who fail to observe the code of conduct will be disqualified from the meeting.
- The driver shall be responsible for the collection and fitting of the correct transponder in their car.
- All competitors will drive from the designated position. Failure to comply will result in the loss of that score.
- Only one drive motor is allowed per car.
- If a motor is changed, it must be approved by the scrutineer. Failure to get the motor approved will result in loss of any results taken using the changed motor
- No car shall be constructed so as to be dangerous to persons or cause damage to competitor's cars or to the track surface. No sharp or protruding objects are allowed on the cars.
- Body and chassis must be securely joined whilst the car is on the track, and when initially entered at a meeting the bodyshell must be neatly finished and complete.
- At national meetings there may be a concourse competition; any bodies entered must be run for the duration of the event as scrutineered.
- Any car losing a wheel or tyre during a race must be removed from the track and have it replaced. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification from that race.
- Any repairs to vehicles must be effected of the track.
- Radio control receivers carried in the car must only have two devices connected, usually the steering servo and the speed controller. The use of any further channels to receive electrical signals from sensors carried in the car is prohibited. Additional connection allowed for personal transponders.
- External battery packs for radio transmitters are not allowed. Transmitters must be switched off whilst not racing.
- The committee reserves the right to amend the rules as required.
- Any competitor found in contravention of the spirit or fact of rules will be disqualified from the meeting.
- Protests must be in writing and must include a £5:00 fee. This fee is refunded if the protest is upheld. If a standard motor is protested and is stripped and found to be legal, then the value of the motor is reimbursed to its owner.
- At the end of the meeting, all score sheets to be given to the points compiler, who will check all results and be responsible for the distribution of the points tables.
- Lap scoring at all national meetings to be carried out by an automated, reliable computer system approved by the BRCA.
