About your web page and Search engines
There are two different kinds of search engines on the web.
The first is a key word search engine: These search engines wait for you to submit key words to them, then whenever somebody enters a search request containing that same word and same spelling, the search engine brings up your page for them. You do not have to worry about this kind of search engine invading your privacy. If you do not tell the search engine that your web page is present or what your web page is about, your page does not exist as far as this search engine is concerned.
For example: If you submitted the key words guitar and banjo, your site would only come up if those words were used. If you site was filled with information about Cystic Fibrosis and people were looking for Cystic Fibrosis they would never find your site using a key word engine because you only submitted the words guitar and banjo.
The second kind of search engine is a web crawler: These search engines visit your site and catalog the all information available on your site. In general, if you did not submit a desire to be "crawled" the web crawlers will not visit your site. However, note that the crawlers aim to catalog everything on the web to provide their searchers with the most information possible. Also, if you are using a free web service (like geocities) the web service may encourage crawlers to check their pages to increase visibility of their services.
For example: If you submitted your site to a web crawler, your site would come up if searchers asked for any of the words used in your site. Guitar, banjo, Cystic Fibrosis, Teague, supercalliefragilistic...
