My Mexican Family

In the Spring of 1999, I had the opportunity to live and study in Cuernavaca.  I lived with this amazing woman, Dona Ramira, who took care of me as if I was one of her very own 'hijas.'

Family is so important to the Mexican culture.  Many families build houses within the same community and usually have dinner together a couple of times during the week.  This picture was taken with one of the daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

More grandchildren.  I had a very special connection with the one in the middle, Juan Eduardo.  He's 7 years old and would sing the most beautiful songs to me.  Sometimes the two of us would just sit and talk and sing together.  He even brought me flowers when I got sick.  I miss him dearly.
