Is Christianity Worth It?
Now, this may sound like an odd question to ask, however to answer the questions of the world do we not first have to ask it from their point of view? So now that all of you (or at least most) have put your stones down for now, I shall continue. A great question asked by the world is "Is Christianity worth following?" Now what can we answer to that? Indeed of course there is that God loved us so much that he gave us his son, Jesus Christ to save us from His just wrath which is and will continue to be punishment in hell. Granted that may not make many friends, even if it is the truth. Now I know from past experience what reactions people can have from this, granted these are not the only two just ones on my mind and they are either the "Wow, God's a blackmailer" line, or the "What if you're wrong?" line. Now let me address both.
As for God being a blackmailer, well that's hardly true. Imagine this, you created the world and made a creature that has the choice to follow you or to totally disregard you. (and no I'm not talking about teenagers here heh) Would you not set down rules and regulations for your people? If you knew all would you not try to protect your people from the wrong choices? I know I would, I would not just create something to let them destroy themself. Now not following the advice of one who knows all, the results would not be too good, now would they? It is like putting your hand on a hot stove, your parents may tell you not to do it, but if you still disobey you get burned. Now this is much the same with God. Sure He doesn't want us to be disobedient to Him, but if we are we're going to get burned, and burned bad. That's not blackmail, it is the truth that all actions have consequences, our sins result in death if not forgiven by God. God's not up there cheering when someone dies who did not follow or believe in Him, but still the punishment is still there. Sure this choice results in the denying of what we think is the best way to go about things, and following God's ways. However, honestly God makes us gain more than we give to Him, because what does He really need from us? This is definitely not the attitude of a blackmailer.
Ok now lets take a look at the question of "What if I'm wrong?" Well to be honest this question doesn't even really matter. What makes me say this? Well simple if I die and there is no God and no Heaven, what do I lose? All I will have done is have led a respectible moral life, with little credit to myself while I was alive, wow that would suck wouldn't it? I certainly don't think that will be the case, but even if somehow God really didn't exist, it just wouldn't matter in the end. Perhaps the better thing is to ask those who do not believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, "What if you're wrong?"
So it comes to no real big surprise that the answer to my question is a resounding "YES!!!" Of course Christianity is worth it, God who knows all is in control of my life and loves me unconditionally. Does Christianity come with a price? Yes it does, but do not all good things in our life come with a price. I'm not just talking about money, but also time, hardships, committment, and change. God is not some blackmailer who is trying to get us to follow Him with threat of Hell, but rather He is our loving creator who knows what is best for us and wishes for us to follow Him and to let Jesus take punishment for our sins or face justice on our own in front of Him. The choice winds up being with us, if I and every other Christian is wrong, we get off easy... but what about those who do not, their being wrong can be something they will have to think about for an eternity.
