As Mesedsura (translated means "Ra Hates Him"), Scarab was the governor of Lower Egypt. He was cold, haughty, ruthless, cruel, scheming, and hungry for power. And that was before he spent 35 centuries buried alive in a tomb! Now he's a lot meaner!

Scarab's brilliant mind and ability to manipulate people won him a place as Pharaoh's right hand man. But Scarab burned with the secret desire to make himself Pharaoh. Amenhotep (the Pharaoh) was above the reach of Scarab's magic, but his only heir Rapses wasn't. Scarab planned his take over carefully. He first wove a spell to give him the lives of fifty men. Then he laid a trap for Rapses by catching him on a hunting trip with his 4 tutors. After a great fight, Scarab killed Rapses, and scattered his ashes over the desert.

Just before the grieving Amenhotep was about to name Scarab his heir, he found evidence of Scarab's treachery, and ordered him executed. Scarab wasn't scared because he had 50 lives! But then the Pharaoh ordered him buried alive in the tomb that was protected by the Pharaoh's seal which his magic couldn't break. For 35 centuries, Scarab plotted his revenge. Then in 1927 an Egyptologist named Harris Stone opened the tomb, and Scarab escaped, killed Stone, and assumed his identity.

Now, 50 years later, Harris Stone (Scarab) is a reclusive multi-billionaire. He impresses everyone who meets him with his wit and charm. In private, Stone transforms back into the hideous, aging sorcerer Scarab.

Scarab can separate the different parts of his soul (the Egyptian soul was said to be made up of the Ba, Ka, Shadow, Akh, and Name) and send them out on evil errands.
  • Ka is an eerie creature made up of two bodiless arms joined together. Scarab sends it to steal things and strangle people.
  • Shadow is Scarab's shadow -- only this person's shadow can walk away from him. It's the perfect spy, and can slip through cracks.
  • Ba, Akh and Name are the parts of his soul that never leave.
Scarab carries around a staff, that's really a cobra called Heka. Heka is actually almost as evil as Scarab.

Scarab can also transform himself to wear the magical armour of the scarab beetle. Its hard shell is impervious to every weapon known to man. It has wings that enable him to fly, and by using its six insect legs he can climb anything -- even upside down on the ceiling. When his arms merge with the massive beetle claws he can crush anything he can grab.
