>    Why our Spanish Course?

The courses:
  • All our courses, whether you chose to come for 2,4 or 8 weeks, are run in small groups. Usually the classes are given one on one, and never more than 4 to one instructor.
  • All the didactic material is included at no extra cost.
  • The courses are designed to be practical, dynamic, and geared to your specific needs.
  • We are truly a total immersion program because Chiapa de Corzo is not home to any full time tourists. The only English you will speak is here at Dunham Institute with our English teachers. Because there are so few tourists you are ensured unlimited opportunities to practice what you learn!

The instructors:

  • Our instructors are all University graduates with degrees in Pedagogy, Philosophy and Literature, Communications, or Education. In short, all our teachers are professional and highly qualified.
  • In keeping with our social responsibility we only employ teachers from the local community and keep them updated on the latest methodology and available didactic material.

The homestays:

  • Free of charge with every course. You will not pay extra for staying with a local family.
  • Does not include meals, but you have full use of the family kitchen to prepare your own meals.
  • All the housing is comfortable, modern, with private room, and in most cases maid service.
  • All the homestays are within walking distance of Dunham Institute, so need for public transport.
  • All families undergo extensive interviewing and screening processes. Most of the families have over 5 years experience hosting guest teachers and students, and truly enjoy the experience of getting to know new people from other cultures.

Further language practice:

  • We put you in contact with the “Friends of Dunham Institute”. This is a group of people who are willing to exchange a few hours a week of Spanish for English conversation skills. If you find it difficult to find someone to practice with, we will help.
  • We will put you in contact with the Casa Escuela de Tradiciones, which runs free workshops on local arts and crafts. You will learn a craft as well as practice your Spanish.
