By enrolling in any of the courses here at Dunham Institute, a portion of every fee will be donated to the ZOOMAT, Zoologico Miguel Alvarez del Toro. It is a one of a kind zoo located in Tuxtla Gutierrez. For those of you that don’t go to zoos or don’t like zoos, this is a unique experience. ZOOMAT houses species that are endemic to the southern region of Mexico, and participates in programs that specialize in the repopulation of most of these species to their natural habitat. The animals are in natural cages, surrounded by their natural habitat, many of which have been rescued and participate in breeding programs.

ZOOMAT is part of the Natural History and Ecology Institute, IHNE, a 60 year-old institution dedicated to the conservation of the natural resources of Chiapas. Aside from the work that the Institution does with zoology, their expertise is also in the areas of botany, paleontology, environmental protection, special attention to protected areas and environmental education.

ZOOMAT depends on donations for specific projects that do not fall under the budget allowances of the state government. We are pleased to be able to help and participate in their programs, and pleased to be able to offer you the same opportunity. Please see www.ihne.chiapas.gob.mx for more information on the programs and current events that are going on at ZOOMAT.
