Second, why I call him Cheezy/Loner Jr. Well, I live in Manitoba (Whose team Cheezy made famous by that wonderful helmet of his) and I'm a constant at the Manitoba Moose games. (Echo comes as well, of course!) Anyway, we started out the 2001-02 season with two new goalies from the ones we'd had the previous year. This made Echo and I mad, because we'd really liked the goalies from the previous year. (We got along with them quite well too...) So, we decided to be mad at the goalies that we'd been dealt in their replacement. Of course, we couldn't be mad at the great Ken Wregget, so we took it out on poor Hedberg. We decided on calling him Hedcheese, after the discusting "food". As time went on, Wregget got injured, and Hedberg held out real great for the team, practically standing on his head. So, we changed our minds about him (especially me, he became my favourite player!) and changed his nickname. (We nickname most of the players on the team!) We couldn't stop calling him Hedcheese, because we'd gotten used to it, so we dropped the 'Head' and called him 'Cheezy'! The 'Loner Jr.' comes from his style in the stoppages in play. While the opposing goalie would go to his team bench, Cheezy would stay all alone in his little corner, seemingly the only guy left on the ice. That gave him the 'Loner'. But there was another reason that gave him the 'Loner' and also added the 'Jr.'. Our past goalie, (one of the two we'd become attached to) Manny Legace, had the same habit as Cheezy during the stoppages in play. Also, from the seats, whenever Cheezy took his helmet off, he looked like he could be Legace's brother! Since Legace was called 'Loner' in the past, Cheezy recieved 'Loner Jr.'. |
