Gundam Wing 1/100 Heavyarms Kai - from EW Heavyarms Custom For anyone who doesn't know, the Gundam Heavyarms never made it as a 1/100 scale kit, well this ALWAYS bothered me. Eventually I had to let it o( after all I didn't want to spend $150 on the B-Club kit).....until I saw the issue of Hobby Japan(Nov 98) with the Heavyarms Early Model featured in it. This gave me a really good idea. So i decided to create my own 1/100 Heavyarms out of the 1/100 Endless Waltz Gundam Heavyarms Custom kit. It would be similar to the one in HJ, but i wanted one more like the TV version. So I went out to the local Gundam kit carrying shop and picked one up(along with a Sandrock Custom so that I could do the same with it). I repainted the entire kit, from the two shades of blue to the red and yellow of the original. Luckily everything on the original version was basically there on the Custom, just in a slightly different shape, which made deciding what would be what color very easy. As for modifications to the actual kit, they were simple: I removed the horns on his shoulders, and then glued the rear shoulder, and hip missile silos shut, to reduce the missile count closer to the original. I then needed some kind of knife or saber for the right arm, and finally decided on Deathscythe Hell's spare scythe blade(the smallest one, used for the dagger version of the Deathsythe's scythe). I removed the upper blade holder from the Hell's folded scythe piece(since i never used it anyway), modified it to fit a polycap to allow the holder to rotate to the stored position on Heavyarms' right arm, and finally attached it to his right arm with a small section of the parts tree- Finished blade holder. Now he has a Beam Blade, as opposed to the small Army knife. As for the Gatling gun, I just decided to leave it the way it was, however I only gave him one of them. I then glued the right side Gatling holder in the up position, since it would never be used to hold a gun, and left the left one free to move to the stored position. After some detailing, and a bit more painting, I was done. It doesn't look exactly like the original version, but is very close, and I personally think it looks better. The double gatling gun gave me the idea to call it Kai, like the double gatling version on the anime. All in all, this was a simple kitbash which gave very good results, and finally gave me a model I had wanted for a long time.
