Laserbeak
One day I decided I'd like to see G1 Laserbeak with a robot mode
instead of a cassette, so I made one...from scratch. The vast majority was made
from various sheet and strip styrene, the thrusters and guns came from Gundam
bits, and both heads are epoxy putty. All joints/hinges were made using 1mm
copper rod. Not really much else to say about the construction, except it took
more time that I expected. Oh, 'Con symbols are Delta's repro-labels
Condor mode:
various shots, including comparison with actual toy
Came out quite show accurate, despite having to transform. The head's a bit too
small, but it needed to be to fit between the thighs during transformation. The
legs are a bit too wide apart, but again, its a side effect for transformation.
Besides those two minor points, I'm really pleased with his condor mode. Oh, his
head can move up and down at two joints, his feet can move side to side, and his
wings flap a bit.
Transformation:
Yep, a photo guide, first time I've done one. It's a simple transformation, as
would be expected of his size. I'm particularly proud of his arm/wing
transformation joint, it gets both the arms and the wings where I wanted them in
each mode, using a single rotating block as the center.
Robot mode:
His robot made is based off the G1 seeker jets, along with some bits of his BW
counterpart. His proportions didn't come out quite like I'd hoped(low shoulders,
legs look weird from the side), but I'm still pleased with it. As for
poseability, his shoulders and hips rotate up and down, while his biceps rotate
side to side (as need for transforming), and that's it.
So there he his, my second full-scratchbuilt Transformer, an improvement over
Arcee I'd say. So, what's everyone think?
