LORD OF THE RINGS Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Wizard Gandalf
(Ian McKellen) arrives at Bag End Story It all begins in the quiet village of Hobbiton where Gandalf the wizard (Ian McKellen) comes to visit his old friend Bilbo Baggins (Ian Holm) on his 111th birthday and talk about the ring Bilbo found many years ago. Gandalf discovers the ring is indeed the One Ring of Sauron-the Dark Lord who once ruled Middle-earth with a terrible hand and has now risen to reclaim the Ring and rule again. Bilbo gives the Ring to his nephew, Frodo (Elijah Wood), who learns how it gives its possessor unspeakable power and why it has now put his village in danger. Suddenly Frodo is thrust into a treacherous mission. With his hobbit friends Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd) and Samwise (Sean Astin), Frodo leaves his beloved home to travel to the Cracks of Doom and destroy the Ring before it falls into the wrong hands. The journey is fraught with dangers--from the evil Ringwraiths, Sauron's henchmen, to the powerful wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee) and his army of horrible mutants called the Uruk-Hai. Luckily the hobbits receive help along the way from Legolas (Orlando Bloom), an elf, Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), a dwarf and the brave humans Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean), who all join the Fellowship of the Ring to protect Frodo and help save Middle-earth. But can they escape the lure of the Ring? [ By : Kit Bowen ]
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The relentless
Uruk-hai capture helpless Pippin and Merry
Gollum the miserable former owner of the Ring Story Ever faithful to J.R.R. Tolkien's epic story, The Two Towers begins right where The Fellowship of the Ring left off--the Fellowship has now been splintered. Gandalf (Ian McKellen) has supposedly been killed. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) have gone off to rescue Hobbits Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd), who have been taken by the Uruk-Hai, the army of super Orcs commanded by the evil wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee). Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) continue to make their way to Mordor--with the Ring weighing heavily upon poor Frodo--and manage to get lost. As fate would have it, they meet Gollum (Andy Serkis), the miserable former owner of the Ring, who tells them he'll lead them to Mordor--and the Ring's destruction (unless, of course, he can steal it back first). Although Sam does not trust the slimy creature (and rightly so), Frodo forms an odd attachment to Gollum. Meanwhile, Aragorn and the others discover Gandalf is actually alive and stronger than ever. He tells the trio Pippin and Merry are safe in the hands of Treebeard, the leader of the Ents (creatures who care for the forests), but Saruman and the Uruk-Hai are wreaking havoc on the Men of Rohan. Gandalf urges them to fight alongside Rohan's King Theoden (Bernard Hill) and his people at the fortress Helm's Deep. The motley crew stage a desperate, climatic battle against the 10,000 strong army of Uruk-Hai to keep Sauron's malevolent control at bay. [ By :Kit Bowen]
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Elijah Wood as "Frodo" Story The Two Towers saw fellowship mates--brave man Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), archer-elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom), grand wizard Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen), comical dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies)--win a major battle against Dark Lord Sauron's orcs at Helm's Deep alongside noble King Theoden (Bernard Hill) of Rohan. But, as we soon find out in The Return of the King, that battle was nuthin' compared to what the good folks of Middle-earth are about to face. Sauron's force is growing more powerful and malevolent by the minute, and the men, joined by feisty Hobbits Pippin (Billy Boyd) and Merry (Dominic Monaghan), are on the move to what they anticipate being their last stand at the Gondor city of Minas Tirith. Desperation, fear and hope play out on the faces of the warriors who face impossible odds as they battle an endless sea of orcs, flying dragons, gargantuan many-horned elephants and catapult-heaving behemoths waging a merciless attack on the walled fortress. Meanwhile, hapless Hobbits Sam (Sean Astin) and Ring-bearer Frodo (Elijah Wood), with the help/hindrance of conniving Gollum (voiced by Andy Serkis), continue their arduous quest to Mordor. Sam grows ever more distrustful of the underhanded creature (with just cause), but the awful and all-powerful Ring is clouding Frodo's judgment, causing him to heed Gollum and doubt his stalwart Hobbit friend. Sam knows Frodo isn't himself, carrying such a heavy burden, so he refuses to waver in his sole duty to get Frodo to Mount Doom, where he can cast the Ring into the lava rivers from whence it came and rid Middle-earth of Sauron's dark forces forever. Then, and only then, can Aragorn take his rightful place as heir to the ancient kings and rule the land in peace. [ By : Kit Bowen ] |
