井戸の水は少々塩辛いです。約３メートルほどの深さの井戸です。９０メートル掘っても、淡水にはなりません。深く掘るほど、当然費用はかさばります。集落地を挟んで田圃の反対側は養殖池になっており、そこには海水が入っています。それを作るようになってから井戸水に塩分が混じるようになったということでした。地面を掘っていくと、土の層はまもなく砂にとって替わり、そこに地下水が流れています。地中は表層の影響を受けやすい構造になっているのです。人糞をどこかにためて肥料にすることに抵抗があるのは、このせいもあるのかもしれません。写真、井戸の隣りにあるのは、雨水をためておく水槽。水の確保は、この地域にとっては最重要課題です。
The water from the well is a bit salty. This well is about 3 meters deep. Even if we dig 90 meters, the water still contain salt. Of course the deeper we dig, the cost gets higher too. Their field is located beside their houses, and there is a fish-raising pond next to the houses, filled with seawater. They say it is after they began using the pond that water from the well got salty. A layer of sand appears under the soil, and the water run there. The water can be affected easily from the surface. Maybe this is one of the reasons they hesitate to use human manure. Next to the well is a tank to store rainwater. In this area the most important issue is to get enough supply of water.
