| Wiccan Tools?? You mean like cauldrons and brooms and stuff like that? Do I need all of that to be Wiccan or a Witch?? |
| Yes, those are some of the Wiccan tools; and no, you do not need them to be Wiccan. These tools are simply representations and symbols and may help but certainly are not necessary, what is necessary is to have an open mind and goals that harm none. |
| Bolline The Bolline is usually a white handled knife used to cut herbs and can also be used to carve anything such as a symbol on a piece of wood for a ritual. |
| Cauldron The cauldron is used for brew making. It is typically an iron po with the widest part being in the center and it usually has three legs. |
| Broom Despite popular opinion, Witches do not fly on brooms. Brooms are used to cleanse ritual areas by sweeping them, the bristles do not need to touch the ground while doing this. There are various chants and visualizations that an go with this. |
| Athame The Athame is a double bladed knife used to direct energy and create personal power in a ritual, it is never used for cutting purposes. It usually has a black handle and a dull blade. |
| Altar A flat surface, often a circular table, for magickal workings. It is said that permanent altars, or those which are not moved are best, but if you have no choice, temporary altars are fine as well. You can place your magickal tools and symbols on the altar. |
| Bell The bell is used to invoke good spirits and to ward off negative ones. |
| Book of Shadows The Book of Shadows contains a collection of a Witch's spells, rituals and anything else she or he may choose to include inside. Modern Witches often type their BoS's but I believe handwriting it is the best way as it brings more power into it. | Candles Candles are used in many spells and rituals to add power to the spell and to provide no electrical lighting; Different colors of candles also have various meanings, if you would like to see the Color Correspondences page, please pick "Wicca - Color Correspondences" from the above "Related Pages" Listbox |
| Chalice The Chalice has a wine glass shape; it can be made out of different types of materials, and is usually made out of metal. It often has symbols inscribed on it. Chalices often hold ritual wine, apple juice or other drinkable liquid during a ritual. |
| Herbs Herbs are used for brewing potions and decorating an area, for more on herbs, the types of herbs and what you can do with them, please go to the main Wicca page and select "Herbs" from there. |
| Pentacle Pentacles are used to consecrate other tools and to evoke spirits. It is usually made out of engravable materials such as wood, metal or clay. A five-pointed star, or pentagram, is inscribed inside. |
| Wand The wand is used for invocation and direction of energy. It can also be used to stir the contents within a cauldron. Wands can be bought in stores just like the other tools but contain a lot more power if created yourself. You can do this by taking any straight piece of wood(certain types of wood such as oak are said to bring even more power) and decorate it with symbols, stones and crystals. |
| Staff A staff is usually a long, wooden pole which is similar in nature to the Wand and is also decorated with crystals and symbols can be engraved. |
