November Update Letter
Dear Friends, Family and Ted,
Yeah yeah, I know, this letter is long overdue, but goodness gracious me how busy have I been. It's been about 2 months and it's flown by.
When I first arrived here in Kamloops I found out we were getting boarded at people from the church because they weren't able to secure the houseing yet. So I was billeted with Andrew Olydam to Lavonne and Ed Fortie. They had two boys, grade 6 and 7, Ryland and Dion and they lived about 20-25 minutes from the church. (although you can do it in 16...) They were an awesome family to be billeted out to and we had a really good time with them. We were with them for about a month till Mike and Jocelyn Fornwald were able to buy the house the guys are in now. The first week was pretty crazy we just got to know everybody and did some orientation stuff, meeting our teachers and some intro into our courses. An average day for us is Prayer/Worship starts at 8:30 at the church and goes for an hour, then we have our first class for an hour, then a 15 minute break, then another hour class, then an hour lunch and then we split up into our electives (discipleship for me, worship for Andrew and dance for a few girls), and have two more afternoon classes for an hour and 15 minutes. So we usually end up finishing at around 4 pm or so.
We are really in the swing of it now, in the last few days I've had a few tests in a few of my courses, we are finishing up some courses, starting new ones or just moving on to a another unit. Some of the classes I have are as follows:
Knowledge of the Holy
With: Dan Sczebel ( A pastor in the church)
We just finished a unit learning how to think of God rightly by getting to know who and what he is. (i.e. Learning about his infinitude, omniscience, omnipotence etc.) Learning that we will never fully understand God, but we can at least know him truly. We were reading a book to accompany it (A.W. Tozer's "Knowledge of the Holy" A small little book, but ever sentance is jam packed)
I've really been enjoying this class it's been so amazing finding out how and where I've put God in a box and getting revelation that we will never fully understand God, he is infinite, so even in heaven we will be learning new things about him for all eternity, forever and ever will we be amazed at who he is.
Lessons in the Kingdom (Discipleship Only)
With: Dan Sczebel
We just finished a unit on the beatitudes, we had to write a 5 minute sermon on something about it for a final exam on this unit, man it was really hard everyone was going over 5 minutes even after cutting out stuff. We are going to be continuing with the Sermon on the mount.
Dan's just a really good teacher in general, I can't get tired of listening to him teach, he's an amazing teacher and just a great guy in general.
Social and Prophetic Justice (Discipleship Only)
With: Tim Larose (Runs the "New Life Mission" and a drug rehab centre in the city)
We're done with him now but we had a 6 week course with him learning about social justice and prophetic justice, one of my favourite things I took out of the class was...
"Prophetic justice is getting a word from God, making a declaration and manifesting God's glory to force our world to line up with God's Kingdom." Wow, there's power in that I tell you.
Such a good class, he has endless stories to make you laugh and cry about the people that come into his mission, once a week the disciplship students go to the mission, put on a chapel and serve food and talk with the people that come in, everyone loves going there.
Prophetic Course(Discipleship Only)
With: Kevin Kinney (on the ministry team here at church and is a prophet)
We only get this class once a month, but it's good, this guy carries so much annointing it's crazy, we've had two classes with us and he's been teaching us about the physical properties of the annointing, (i.e. It flows towards faith, can be transferred by touch, or anywhere you look, some pretty crazy stuff, our last class was at his house and he was teaching us about being filled and walking in the annointing rather then viewing it as just a momentary thing, then he did some practical stuff and there were only a couple who didn't get floored. A few people had to be carried home, but over all it's pretty good.
Tabernacle of David (Discipleship Only)
Dustin Barker (Here to teach and help run the school only about 21-22 years old)
We just finished a segment of the Life of David, there are about 3 or 4 segments to the Tabernacle of David which we will be getting to soon, but for such a young guy he sure has a lot of revelation, really cool person, I get along really well with him, plus his name is Dustin, how much better can it get?
Cam Bastedo (Teacher here at the school)
Wow, what can I say about Cam, I've never heard of such revelation of biblical understanding as this guy has, God gives him insane revelation, for example he showed us how Samson is a Christ figure, he compared it for us and it's just crazy, anyways we've been studying out of 2 Peter 1. We are so blessed to have Cam here with us, he could be off doing conference and he could be off teaching in the far north(which is something he'd really like) but God called him here to teach us so he's doing it. Sometimes it's hard because he'll teach something but go off on like 5 different rabbit trails while speaking but somehow he'll bring it all together which is amazing. I wish you guys could sit in on one class, you'd be blown away, but since you can't, you'll have to take my word for it. I gaurantee however that you've never heard a guy like this before, he looks like John the baptist with a big beard and sometimes he'll just start yelling, but you've never heard someone with the amount of wisdom and revelation he has nor someone who knows the bible like he does.
Practical Life and Ministry
Mike Fornwald(Director here and house parent at the guys house)
This is a real practical course, ranging from things like cooking, how to change your oil, budgeting, and so on pretty good stuff, handy for while we're here and learning how to live on your own.
Life of a Disciple (Discipleship Only)
Mike Fornwald
We learn things like Taming the Tongue, hearing the voice of God, making decisions, another really good class that I had a test in today.
Theology of Revival
Nolan Clark (Pastor of The Feast)
This is such a good class, we are learning about revival, what is is and how it comes about and we've been studying different biblical revivals as well as many historical revivals, I really enjoy partly because it's such an awesome subject and partly because Nolan is a really good teacher and really fun to listen to.
Romans
Nolan Clark
We've been studying the book of Romans and so far have just started the second chapter, Nolan gets such good revelation out of this chapter, it's been amazing. Before Romans we studyed all about the death of Christ and his resurrection and we learned exactly what happened and I especially gained new revelation of the power when Jesus died, when he died and his life flowed into the earth, literally, people walked out of their graves and went to the cities, we've all been receiving alot in this class.
Mercy Ministries
Heather Wiebe(Counselor at the Feast)
This has been a really good class so far, we've been doing alot of study into finding out what our personality types are, what our love languages are (how we give and receive love in out own way) and finding out our identity in Christ. We are going to be going further in depth into practical counseling stuff, looks like it's going to continue to be a really good class.
Entrepeneaurship (however you spell that)
Ray ???
We just started this class, we are going to be learning about basics of being an entrepaneaur and basic business stuff, it looks like it's going to be a really fun and practical course, he's a really nice guy, easy to listen to.
I think those are all my classes, at least the ones I can remember right now, throughout the year some will be starting up others finishing so we are going to be getting quite a mix, but we end up having a bunch of homework and we learn alot. If I were to come home now, it'd be worth it, that's how much I've learned in this short time, I can't imagine what I'm going to be getting in the next 7-8 months or so.
Also every week we have a certain amount of bible reading to do, we have a bible review test everyweed on what we read, we have to write three pages in out journal and we have a memory verse or sometimes two each week, so we are kept busy with that and other homework from our other classes. We also are reading books in a couple of our classes so we get pretty busy with reading what we need to rather than what we want.
Even with all that there is still time to have fun, and do we ever, living in the guys house has been so good, there are 7 male students(out of 20 students in all) and we will in a big house 1 minute away from the school, we mostly just walk, I'm sharing a room with Andrew Olydam(Abbotsford) and James Sanford(Seattle), I've known Andrew for a while but this James guy is crazy, he's such a nice guy, he's only been a christian for 10 months and he's just such a great guy, I couldn't have asked for better roomates. Living in the guys house has been awesome, we have alot of fun, we have a rec-room where we have a fooseball table, a shuffleboard table and where we commonly wrestle with Mike Fornwald(he absolutely destroys us). We take turns making dinner, have a job schedule and a shower schedule, it goes pretty smoothly generally. One thing we do quite a bit is wrestle, with Mike and even with Nolan, Nolans crazy, no one can beat him, he's even wasted 8 guys at once, he just ended up stacking them up in the end, it's all in fun, so we make sure we do it alot.
There is quite a diversity among the people, we have a girl from Ireland, one from England, Alaska, Saskatchewan, Mission, Kelowna, Way-Up-Where-in-the-North, Prince George, we have a guy from Philadelphia, Seattle, Oregon, Surrey, Mackenzie(another way up where city), and the youngest here is 17 and the oldest is 26 years old with an average of 19-21 year olds.
We've been doing a conferances as well in fact we just had one the church hosted called Fuel, it was awesome, good teaching and some friends and Elisa came up to visit as well, we'll be going, not htis weekend but the one after to a conferance in Hundred Mile House called, "The Big Youth Thing" it should be alot of fun, probably about 300 or so people there, I'll be teaching a class there called Hearing the Voice of God, it should be interesting considering I have to teach for an hour to an hour and a half and I've never taught over 15 minutes or so, but It'll be fun I'm sure, plus I have a few helpers so I don't anticipate it to be too bad.
Anyways, I gotta get going, I'll try to update you all sooner next time, if you want to send me any letters or rubber ducks, I have the address below, or you can e-mail me too. Thanks for you prayers!
