BOTSWANA
There isn't a lot we can tell you about Botswana as we only spent an afternoon driving through the northern section of the Chobe Game Reserve on our way to Zambia - but we'll ramble a bit anyway.
Botswana gets most of its goods from Seffrica so whatever you find down south, you're likely to find here. Prices are significantly higher when it comes to foodstuffs and the like but fuel is really cheap - beaten only by Zimbabwe but with fewer problems.
People are fairly arrogant - we've found them to be during our visits - and the cost of game parks and natural areas, particularly the Okavango Swamps, are quite high and are paid in Pula.
The road from Maun, gateway to the Swamps, through Savuti to Ngoma Bridge is in shocking condition and really does require a pair of 4x4s in convoy, especially in the wet season.
Third party insurance is reasonably cheap - about 20 Pula - and is valid for a year, while Seffrican driver's licences are accepted here - they're also accepted in Namibia. You don't need a carnet if your vehicle is Seffrican registered. Botswana, like Namibia and Seffrica, don't accept the Comesa and you'd likely need to buy some at the border if you have a foreign registered vehicle.
The only piece we wrote on Botswana appeared under Livingstone's entry:
LIVINGSTONE A rough day's drive, lazy border officials and we're in Zambia.
