ETHIOPIA

It's a beautiful country but the people are a pain in the butt. Fortitude, forbearance and saintly patience are needed to really appreciate this country.
Unfortunately, these are qualities neither Lisa nor I have, although she has far more than I do and even she was tested beyond endurance.
The roads aren't brilliant but they aren't too appalling as long as you aren't in a rush. The monuments that all the guidebooks list are difficult to enjoy, given the bureaucratic difficulties and the pestering by hordes of children and other local hazards (including fleas at Lalibela).
You often need to pay a fee to use your camera - such as around Konso - and video cameras incur an immediate hefty surcharge: for some reason they think that a video will discourage other tourists from visiting Ethiopia!
Speaking Amharic would definitely be an advantage.
Entries for Ethiopia:
WOBBLY BELLY
Tigger falls in love.
ADDIS ABABA
Bureaucrats and fine food.
GONDER
Gorgeous views and guns.
