card to your regular graphics card that takes over the math of decoding
a DVD from the CPU. They are usually PCI cards and come with their own
software. Advantages: even a weak system (I've heard of Pentium 166 MHz
being able to play smooth as silk) can play DVD. Macrovision
can be deactivated on some. Disadvantage: You have to fork out more cash.
Take up a PCI slot. Some are not compatible with all video cards. Which

Digital Versatile Disc
or Digital Video Disk. Basically a CD-ROM on steroids. It looks the same,
tastes the same (do NOT try it, at least not without milk) but can pack
much more info on it. Baldur's gate, a famous game, is a 5 or 6 CD set.
The DVD version is either 1 or 2 DVDs. The big advantage over video tape
is quality that remains the same for each time you play it and you can
switch through languages and have more space for extras like alternate
endings and scenes that were cut out.

film giants' way of keeping you from enjoying your films (under certain
circumstances). If you ever tried to copy a tape and the picture was bad
and jumped around, that's Macrovision. DVDs are protected by macrovision too. That's why if you try to run through your VCR the picture is messed
up. I had no choice. It was either get a new TV because (350 DM and up)
or get around Macrovision. So I got around it.

Simply put, instead
of viewing on a monitor, you view on your TV, the video signal is sent
out to the TV.

| Video Stabilisator:
|
also called a macro decoder (or dekoder) a little "black" box you put between
your TV-out and the VCR. It removes the known copy protection so you can
view DVDs when you run through the VCR. Yes you can use it to copy them too. This is NOT illegal in Germany for personal
use. Here's an interpretation
of the law (in German). The company that made mine
is Elec.
